Grover C. Smith, 61, died Dec. 12, 2011 at the Orangeburg Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral service was held Dec. 17 at Second Baptist Church of Barnwell with the Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery of Barnwell. Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 19, 1949 in Smoaks. He was the son of the late Marion and Rosa Lee Smith. At an early age, he was baptized at the Lovely Hill Baptist Church. He was predeceased by three brothers, Leon, Willie and Freddie Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria J. Smith of North Charleston; one daughter, Artis (Ronnie) Smith of Summerville; one son, Grover Cecil (Dedra) Smith Jr. of North Charleston; four sisters; a devoted sister who was his caregiver, Annette S. Frederick, Marilyn (Johnny) Smith, both of Barnwell, Eleanor Smith of Queens, N. Y. and Josephine Smith of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Magadlene Smith of Barnwell, Azillee Hodges of Bamberg, Marie Gavin and Authoree Givson, both of Orlando, Fla.; three brothers-in-law, Gordon Johnson, Eddie Johnson and Horace Johnson of Smoaks; seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
