Guy R. Dobson

Guy R. Dobson, 82, of Barnwell, died Feb. 2, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Blalock officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. 
Mr. Dobson was born June 19, 1927 in Lovelady Texas. He was the son of the late Willie Joe and Florence Robbins Dobson. He was drafted into the Army in 1945 and served in South Korea as a clerk typist to set up voting procedures for all cities and school positions. He was discharged in 1947. He worked for Modern Optics and in 1961 moved to Barnwell to work for Shuron Optical Co. He retired in 1990 as lens superintendant. He clerked at Sweetwater Country Club until 2009 and was recognized as having played more round of golf than anyone at Sweetwater. He won the “Yard of the Month” garden club award several times. He loved roses and at one time had more than 100 plants. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lavern Willis Dobson of Barnwell; one daughter, Abby (Jim) Sherrer of Charleston; two sons, Guy R. (Sherry) Dobson Jr. of Summerville and Paul (Verna) Dobson of Barnwell; one brother, Willie Dobson of Rockford Ill.; one sister, Hazel Rogers of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
