Helen Joyce Fulmer Byars

Helen Joyce Fulmer Byars, 67, of Aiken, died Oct. 15, 2009 after an extended illness.
Funeral service was held Oct. 18 at Couchton Baptist Church, with burial in Windsor Baptist Church Cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Byars was born in Aiken County. She was the daughter of Sammie Rembert and Dessie Lee Baughman Fulmer. She was a buyer for Belk Department Store, a member of Couchton Baptist Church, member and teacher Sunrays Sunday school class, a Sunday school teacher for the primary and adult departments, GA and RA leader and a member of the WMU. She founded Ladies Auxiliary of Couchton, Fire and Rescue Department and was a member of Daughters of the Confederate Rose. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Swartz.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Wendell Bennett Byars; two daughters, Juanita B. (Ken) Bell and Lisa B. Cook all of Aiken; five sons, John Wendell (Tammy) Byars of Auburn, WA, Daniel "Danny" Byars of Douglasville, Ga., Robbie Byars, Dave Byars and Brantley Byars, all of Aiken; one daughter-in-law, Roxanne Byars; one sister, Katherine Sheppard of Wagener; two brothers, Donald Fulmer of North Augusta and Carol Fulmer of Clearwater; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
