John Henry Propst Jr.
The Rev. Dr. John Henry Propst Jr., 88, died May 19, 2010.
Funeral service was held May 22 at the First Baptist Church of Olar conducted by Dr. Wayne Lovett, the Rev. Farrell Ray and Dr. Stephen Gantt. Private burial services will be held at Barnwell County Memory Gardens. Mole Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The Rev. Dr. was born June 11, 1921, in Columbia. He was the son of the late John Henry Propst Sr. and Roberta Cooper Propst. He was a former resident of Aiken. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army for three years. He served as pastor at the following churches; First Baptist Church of Highlands N.C., First Baptist Church of John’s Island, S.C. (24 years), Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and Allen’s Chapel Baptist Church in Barnwell, S.C. and Govan Baptist Church of Govan. He was predeceased by is first wife, Mary A. Propst and his second wife, Jean B. Propst and a brother Robert C. Propst.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Johnson Propst of the home; one daughter, Linda P. Stutts (Lee) of Springfield; one brother, Wyatt Propst (Anne) of Monck’s Corner; his stepmother, Edith W. Propst of Aiken; two stepsons, Robert Johnson and Edgar Johnson and two stepdaughters, Sherry Gooding and Evelyn Negri and several nieces and nephews; three grandsons and three great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Southern Baptist North American Missions and International Missions.
