Lewis Joshua Hinely, Sr.
Lewis J. Hinely, Sr., 89, of Augusta, Ga., died Feb. 1, 2010 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga.
Memorial service was held Feb. 6 at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Drs. Greg DeLoach and Roger Murchison officiating. Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, of Augusta, Ga. were in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hinely was a native of Springfield, Ga. He was a Navy veteran who served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He and Marianne have lived in Augusta since 1951, where he taught at Tubman Junior High. He also was an assistant principal and principal at Butler High School and an assistant coordinator for vocational education, retiring after 31 years of service to the Richmond County (Ga.) Board of Education. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta, teaching the 4-year-old Sunday school for 30 years. He was a deacon and member of the Crusaders Class and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Marianne A. Hinely; three daughters, Ann H. Fairey of Barnwell, Emily H. Sewell of Athens, Ga. and Martha E. Grove of Augusta, Ga.; one son, Lewis J. (Patsy) Hinely, Jr. of Evans; two sisters, Edell Raburn of Athens, Ga. and Mary Hiers of Valdosta, Ga.; special friends, Kelley Fairey, Charles Sewell and Manley Grove; six grandchildren and five great-grandsons
