Mary Wilkes Moore
Mary Wilkes Moore, 87, of Barnwell, died Feb. 6, 2010 at the Barnwell County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside service was held Feb. 8 at the Seven Pines Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Mark Watford and Billy Mew officiating. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Moore was born May 17, 1922 in Greenwood. She was the daughter of the late Carl V. and Agnes Wheeler Wilkes. She was the widow of W.W. (Billy) Moore Sr. She taught in Hilda and Dunbarton for several years. With her husband, she co-owned Moore’s Grocery until her retirement in 1987. She served as the Snelling town clerk for 23 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Seven Pines Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where she taught Sunday school, served on many church committees and was active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was predeceased by a sister, Dorcas W. Batten.
Survivors include one daughter, Dale Moore (Tim) Gable; one son, W. Wiley (Theresa) Moore, Jr.; one brother, Carl V. Wilkes, Jr. of Lamar; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family gratefully appreciates the care given to her by Ms. Alice and Ms. Lucy, the nurses and staff at the Barnwell County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Palmetto Hospice.
