Rufus Gillie Croft

Rufus Gillie Croft, 78, of Barnwell, died May 23, 2010 at the Barnwell County Hospital.
Funeral service was held May 26 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. George Johnson and Richard McWhite officiating. Burial was in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery at the airport. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Croft was born July 5, 1931 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Gillie Lee and Annie Lou Still Croft. He was a retired merchant. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a member of the masons and a former member of the SC National Guard. He was predeceased by his son, Terry Croft and a brother Andrew Croft.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Black Croft; one daughter, Brenda (Roger) Williams; one brother, Duist (Patricia) Croft; three sisters, Sally (Everette) Carter, Adaree (Jack) Morris and Ann Jones, all of Barnwell; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arlene M. Hall Ford

Arlene M Hall Ford, 55, died May 25, 2010 in Murray, Ky.
Funeral service was held May 28 at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray Ky. Burial was private in Foster Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Ind. at  The JH Churchill Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Ford was born Nov. 6, 1955 in Michigan City, Ind. She was the daughter of John and Dolores Hall.  In 1997 she married Randal Ford. She was with the Barnwell, South Carolina School System from 1978 – 1993 where she served as a guidance counselor and taught special education and math. 
Survivors include her husband, Randal Ford; her parents; one sister, Anita Hall DeRitter of  Louisiana; one niece; one nephew and three great nieces.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Murray State University Foundation, Attention Billie Downing Scholarship Fund, 106 Development Center, Murray, Kentucky 42071.

Michael Carrico ‘Mike’ Martin

Michael Carrico “Mike” Martin, 68, of Barnwell, died May 24, 2010.
Memorial service was held May 27 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with burial in the Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Martin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of the late Vaughn Franklin and Thelma Marie Carrico Martin. He retired after having owned and operated Martin’s Paint and Body Shop in Blackville. He also served 15 years on the Blackville Volunteer Fire Department, served as a reserve officer for the Blackville Police Department for five years, serving as a reserve deputy for the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office for 13 years and he was a Navy veteran. He was predeceased in death by a brother Gary F. Martin, grandson, Dakota Carrico Martin. 
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Sandifer Martin of the home; three daughters, Linda and Debbie Martin, both of Barnwell and Charlene Martin of Florida; three sons, Michael Vaughn (Faith) Martin of Blackville, Roy Martin and Johnny Martin of Cummings, Ga.; three stepsons, Jason (Stephanie) Davis of Lexington, David J. Berry of Blackville and Brandon (Ashley) Berry of Rowesville; three brothers, Greg (Helen) Martin, Brian (Susan) Martin and Steve Martin; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Angela M. Fykes
Angela M. Fykes, 51, of Indianapolis, Ind., died May 22, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral service was held May 29 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Blackville with the Rev. Floyd Hughes, Ministers Richard D. Miller and Johnell Copeland and Pastor Michael Clardy officiated. Burial was in the Blackville Cemetery in Blackville. Dash’s Funeral Home of Blackville was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Fykes was born July 7, 1958 in Blackville. She was the daughter of the late Washington and Lillie Mae Dowling. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Blackville. After moving to Indianapolis, she united with the Family Bible Church. She was employed by Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, Ind. She was predeceased by three sisters, Juanita Jackson, Barbara Johnson and Margaret Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Fykes of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Nykelia Dowling of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Miguel Dowling of Indianapolis, Ind. and Jerry D. Fykes Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn.; six sisters, Elouise (William) Harley of Blackville, Lelia Grayson of Blackville, Lillie Mae (VonLee) Jones of Norway, Shelia (Frank) Ash of Orangeburg, Patricia (Carl) Logan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Joeanne Sanders of Atlanta, Ga.; five brothers, John L. (Martha) Dowling of Brooklyn, N. Y., Washington (Dorothy) Dowling of Keysville, Va., Herbert (Jessie) Dowling and Leslie Dowling, both of Greenville and James Dowling of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Lillie Dowling and eight grandchildren.

Sylestine W. Odom

Sylestine W. Odom, 68, of Blackville, died May 16, 2010 at the Aiken Regional Hospital in Aiken.
Funeral service was held May 22 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Blackville with the Rev. Floyd Hughes officiating. Burial was in the Honey Ford Baptist Church cemetery in Denmark. Dash’s Funeral Home of Blackville was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Odom was born March 18, 1942. She was the daughter of the late William Kennedy Sr. and the late Ruby Dell Free Kennedy. She was married to the late Clary Odom. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Blackville. She was predeceased by one child, Clary Odom Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa (Marcus) Sanders and Terry (Detriot) Donaldson, both of Blackville; one brother, Joe (Teresa) Kennedy of Kemmerer, Wyo.; four sisters, Priscilla Kennedy of Denmark, Sallie Ann Kennedy of Blackville, Mae P. Kennedy and Robin Atterberry, both of Denmark; two brothers-in-law, Willie (Janet) Odom of Denmark and Otis (Cassie) Odom of Statesboro, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Gerald Odom of Denmark and Lucille (Leon) Kearse of Blackville; three uncles; six grandchildren.

Edsel Eugene Kinsler

Edsel Eugene Kinsler, 58, died May 7, 2010 at Trinity Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral service was held May 13 at Crowe’s Funeral Home’s Inc. of Jamaica; N. Y. was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Kinsler was born Oct. 20, 1951 in Jamaica, N. Y. He was the son of the late Edsel Ford Kinsler and Mildred Beck Spigner. He was employed with the New York Telephone Company now known as Verizon, as a cable splicer technician for 20 years. He returned home to Barnwell in 1998. He was predeceased by one brother, Melvin Nesbitt.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Kinsler; two children, TaNasha Kinsler and Taknealia (James) Peacock; his stepmother, Doris Kinsler; two brothers, Robert (Gloria) and Steven (Suzanne) Kinsler; his stepmother in-law, Ardell Howard; six brothers-in-law, Anthonoy )Zaida) and George (Sheila) Stone,, Gregory (Sonia), Gerald (Angela), Clinton (Barbarta) Howard and Winfred (Ernestine) Davis; five sisters-in-law, Gladys Nesbitt, Darlene ()Daniel) Tucker, Colleen (Alonzo) Jones, Vivan (Rod) Haney and Nettie (James) McIntosh; three aunts; one uncle; a cousin who was more like a sister, Brenda Reseau; a special friend, Helen Creech and five grandsons,

Dave Campfield Jr.

Dave Campfield Jr., 63, died May 15, 2010.
Funeral service was held May 22 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. James Jackson officiating. Burial was in the New Home Baptist Church cemetery. Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Campfield was born Dec. 4, 1946 in Allendale County. He was the son of Dave and Bernice Campfield Sr. He was employed with Will Hall Company. He was married to the former Elizabeth Frederick. He was predeceased by three brothers, Cornelius Campfield, Benjamin Campfield and Johnny Jones and one brother-in-law, Willie Henry Frederick.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth F. Campfield of Barnwell; one daughter, Willie Mae Campfield and Benjamin Bellman, both of Barnwell; two sons, Elexander Campfield of Barnwell and David Campfield of North Augusta; his mother of Allendale; sisters, Catherine Bing of Somerset, N. Jannie Bell (Washington) Chinn

Jannie Bell (Washington) Chinn, 69, died May 19, 2010 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral service was held May 24 at Central Baptist Church, Denmark with the Rev. Alex Jefferson officiating. Burial was in the Denmark Community Cemetery. Lebby Funeral Home of Denmark was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Chinn was born Jan. 6, 1941 in Bamberg County. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Sadell Hartwell Washington. She was married to the late Walter Chinn.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanya Faust of Denmark and Yvette R. Chin of Orangeburg; one son, Warren (Jenice) Washington of Atlanta, Ga.; two aunts; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Clara Louise Sanders

Clara Louise Sanders, 90, died May 8, 2010.
Funeral service was held May 14 at Second Baptist Church, Barnwell, with the Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Hope Memorial Park, Inc. Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Sanders was born July 15, 1919 in Barnwell County. She was the daughter of Louis Sanders and Jessie Glover Pinkney. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Jerry (Lizzy) Sanders Jr. of East Orange, N. J., Rubena Sanders of Glen Coe, N. Y. and Bobby Lee Sanders of Barnwell; grandchildren reared in the home, Dwayne Sanders of Brentwood, N. Y., Lacarol Johnson of Barnwell and Matilda Dandiels of Barnwell; two brothers, Julian (Delores) Sanders of Jersey City, N. J. and Earnest pinkney Jr. of Barnwell; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Worthy; an adopted daughter, Pearline P. Hankerson; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Tomika Sada ‘Mattie’ Brant

Tomika Sada “Mattie” Brant, 23, of Williston, died May 25, 2010 at the Bamberg County Hospital.
Funeral service was held May 30 at the Allendale Elementary School, Allendale with burial in the Priester Cemetery, Ulmer. Heritage Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Brant was the daughter of Darryl Priester and Theresa Brant.
Survivors include two children, Zy-Quivonna Brooker and Zy-Quavian Cochran; her mother and father; special friend, Willis Robinson; two brothers, Jedediah McKnight and Darryl Moore of Allendale; two special brothers, Reginald Andre (Olivia) Bradley of Varnville and Antonio Bradley of Salsbury, Md.; three sisters, Latosha Brant of Allendale, Kawanda Brant of Denmark and Nakah McKnight of Fairfax; aunts, uncles, nieces  and nephews and a host of family and friends.
