Jackie Tyrone Holman
Jackie Tyrone Holman, 58, of Blackville, departed from this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 28, 2010.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Blackville.
The funeral service will be held at 1 pm. at the Blackville-Hilda High School Auditorium beginning at 1 p.m.
After the service, possibly between 2:30 and 3 p.m., the mayor's casket will be placed on a horse-drawn hearse.
The carriage will proceed down Izlar St. and then turn onto Latrrigue St. The procession will pause briefly in front of the Blackville Town Hall for a ceremonial 21-gun salute.
From town hall, the procession will move towards Main Street and circle the business district, passing in front of the fire department.
From there, the hearse will turn right onto Hwy. 3 (Solomon Blatt Ave.) and then right (west) onto U.S. 78 (Dexter St.).
The procession will stop in front of Macedonia Baptist Church and the casket will be transferred from the horse-drawn hearse to a motorized hearse.
The casket will then be taken to Hope Memorial Park on S.C. 3 for burial.
Holman was born in Orangeburg County on August 11, 1952 to the late Rivers Porter and Fannie H. Parlor. His late Aunt Emma Barnes played a vital role in his child rearing.
Holman was a native of Norway, S.C. where he received his early education from Norfield High School. He graduated in 1974 from Claflin College with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science. He later received his Bachelor of Social Work from Benedict College in 1990.
Mayor Holman was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He worked diligently as a Deacon for more than 20 years.
His political career started as a council member in the early 1990s. He later joined the Lower Savannah Council of Government as a board member. Jackie decided to seek the office of Mayor and won. He was currently serving his third term as the Mayor of the Town of Blackville.
Mayor Holman's employment history included Dean of Men for Claflin College, Human Service Department Case Manager for Allendale County Department of Social Services, Sales Associate in the areas of Insurance and Retail, and Sergeant for Allendale County Detention Center. He was currently employed for Macedonia Elementary School.
Mayor Holman leaved to cherish his memories: his devoted wife Brenda Johnson Holman; a daughter Shawndra Holman (John) Williams; one son Jackie Lamonte (Victoria) Holman; a loving mother Fannie (Thomas) Parlor; an adoptive sister Glenda Youmans; six grandchildren: Arianna Janelle Williams, Alexandria Janae Williams, Jaheim Butler, Jacquel Tyrone Holman, Breonna Chanel Holman and John Preston Williams; two brother-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Mayor Holman was a wonderful husband, outstanding father and grandfather, friend and mentor. He will be dearly missed among the community he so loved and by all that knew him. His motto was "I will trust in the Lord until I die."

Martha Bryan Farmer Bales
Martha Bryan Farmer Bales, 67, died Aug. 22, 2010.
Memorial service was held Aug. 28 at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Allendale with Bishop Charles Farmer Duval officiating. Burial was in the Swallow Savannah Cemetery. Keith Smith Funeral Service of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Bales was a native of Allendale. She was the daughter of the late Augustus J. and Martha Bryan Farmer, Sr. started her forestry career at Butterfield Plantation in Allendale and retired from MeadWestvaco Forestry Division in Ravenel. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Allendale. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Augustus J. (Gus) Farmer, Jr. and William Buist Farmer.
Survivors include two sons, Robert W. (Laura) Bales of Covington, Ga. and Michael B. (Susan) Bales of Barnwell; one daughter Allison B. (Michael) Niegowski of Barnwell; one sister-in-law, Gloria Harvey Farmer of Beech Island; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Gloria Halstead
Gloria Halstead, 77, of Williston, died Aug. 27, 2010 at her residence.
No services are scheduled at this time. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Halstead was a member of the First Baptist Church, Williston and the "Over the Hill Gang" band.
Survivors include her husband, Norris T. Halstead of Williston; two daughters, Gina Stoehr and Gale Taber, both of Orlando, Fla.; two sons, Bruce Halstead of Liberty, Texas and Jeffrey Halstead of Ft. Worth, Texas; two brothers, Everett Murrill Jr. of Hurricane, W. Va. and Curt Murrill of Cabin Creek, W. Va. and nine grandchildren.

Dorothy Metts New
Dorothy Metts New, 74, of Windsor, died Aug. 24, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral service was held Aug. 26 at Spring Branch Baptist Church. Burial was in the Vaucluse Cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. New was born in Harriman, TN. She was the daughter of the late Author Solomon and Beulah Cox Solomon Hood. She was a homemaker, first married to the late Richard Metts, Sr. and attended Spring Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by brothers, James Solomon and Micky Hood.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Henderson New; three daughters, Linda Arthur, Brenda (Jackie) Spicer and Gloria (James) Moulton; two sons, Richard (Bonnie) Metts, Jr. and Robert (Beverly) Metts; five sisters, Selah Mae Day, Betty Soul, Sherry Brady, Shelia Tillman and Stella Owens; three brothers, Ricky, Gary and Jerry Dean Hood; 26 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The family has suggested that monetary donations be made to Folk Funeral Home, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853 to help the family with expenses.

Lucille Still Lee
Lucille Still Lee, 91, of Denmark died Aug. 23, 2010 in the Orangeburg Hospital.
Graveside service was held Aug. 26 in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnwell. Mercer Funeral Home of Denmark was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Lee was born Sept. 22, 1918 in Govan. She was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Sallie Ray Still. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denmark. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Joseph (Joe) Still and a sister, Bonnie Reese.
Survivors include one sister, Sara Kinard of Charlotte; nephews Timmy Still and Jimmy (Patricia) Still of Barnwell, Donnie Morris of Blackville; nieces, Linda (Mike) Kelly of Plano, Texas, Diane (Norman) Temple of Columbia and Cindy (Joey) Delk of Orangeburg.

Gertrude Hogg Rice
Gertrude Hogg Rice, 94, died Aug. 27, at Riverview Health in Savannah.
Funeral service was held Aug. 31. Burial was at Cave Methodist Church Kline. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Rice was born Feb. 16, 1916 in Kline.
She was predeceased by her father, James Wilson Hogg; her mother, Gertrude Newman Hogg; siblings, Thomas Franklin Hogg, Eugene Newman Hogg and James McDonald Hogg.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph S. Rice of Salt Lake City, Utah, Malcolm F. Rice of Savannah; one sister, Mary Agnes Hogg Franklin of Savannah, Ga.; cousins, George Bonnette of Manning and Celeste Daniels of Orangeburg.
