Rev. Van Hinton Porter
Rev. Van Hinton Porter, 86, of West Columbia, died Feb. 19, 2010.
Funeral service was held Feb. 22 at Northside Baptist Church in West Columbia, where he was a former pastor. Burial was in the Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia was in charge of the arrangements
The Rev. Porter was born in Williston. He was the son of the late Hille Watson and Dixie Boylston Porter. He served in World War II on the European front and was awarded a Purple Heart. He served churches in Texas, North and South Carolina during his ministry and also as an interim and supply pastor at many South Carolina churches. He was predeceased by brothers, Hilly Watson Porter, Jr. and his twin, Van Clinton Porter.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ann N. Porter; three sons, Doug (Becky) of Ridgeway; Reggie (Harriet) of Lexington and Greg (Jane) of West Columbia; two brothers, Dr. Neil D. Porter of West Columbia and Gene M. (Shirley) Porter of Williston; two sisters, Ethelyn Robinson and Geneva (Willis) Crain, both of Chester; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, 5106-B Two Notch Road, Columbia, S.C. 29204 or the Bible Broadcasting Network.
