Ruben Still

Ruben Still, 91, died August 24, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral service was held Aug. 26 at Mount Lebanon Christian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ruben was born on Oct. 15, 1917 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Martin and Ella Joyner Still. He was a retired employee of Milliken Inc and a farmer. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Christian Church. He was an army veteran of WWII and participated in the D-Day Landing at Normandy. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany on Nov. 10, 1944. He also received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was predeceased by siblings, Pearline Harley, Elizabeth Rowell, Ervin Still, Azilee Collins, Elloree Croft, Frances Gunnells and Vernice Grubbs.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Gunnells Still of Barnwell; two daughters, Jean (David) Hartzog of Hilda and Linda (Vince) Winegardner of Davison N.C.; one brother, Lauris (Zelma) Still of Barnwell; one sister, Betty (O'Neal) Croft of Barnwell; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
