Sam Hammonds, 79, died Dec. 11, 2009.
Funeral service was held Dec. 19, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Blackville, with the Rev. Dr. Herman Wallace officiating. Lebby Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hammonds was born Feb. 15, 1930 in Blackville. He was the son of the late John Hammonds and Viola Trottie. He worked for Roth Farm in Belle Glade, Fla.
Survivors include one son, Willie P. Hammonds of Williston; five daughters, Samella Rivers of South Bay, Fla., Lois Williams of Belle Glade, Fla., Gloria Hammonds of Goldsboro, N. C., Sabrina Gilmore of Sailsbury, Md. And Michelle Hall of Dublin, Ga.; one son-in-law, Ricky Artis of Pikeville, N. C.; one brother, Mathews Hammonds of Blackville; one niece; 33 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
