Van Douglas Shirley
Van Douglas Shirley, 46, of Springfield, died Oct. 6, 2009.
Memorial service was held Oct.10 at the Shellhouse funeral Chapel, Aiken. Shellhouse Funeral home, Inc. of Aiken was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Shirley was born Dec. 4, 1962 in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. He was the son of Windell Leon and Julia Leonard Shirley. He was a registered nurse who worked for Barnwell County Hospital. He served our country from 1979 to 1983 as a U. S. marine, received an honorable discharge and was a member of the Marine Corp League, Detachment 1227 and the Barnwell County Leathernecks. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mara Jeanne Shirley; one son, Charles Douglas Shirley of Springfield; two stepsons, Michael Anthony Myers Sr. of Aiken and Patrick Ross Myers of Dunedin, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Shannon Diane Myers of Aiken; his parents of Huntsville, Ala.; mother-in-law, Sheila Rae Ward; father-in-law, Roger E. Ward, both of South Bend, Ind.; one sister, Windy Lynn Andrews of Altemonte Springs, Fla.; one brother, Jeffrey Leon Shirley of Corpus Christi, Texas and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marine Corp League, Detachment 1227, P. O. Box 384, Barnwell, SC 29812.
