William B. “Billy” Gillam, Sr.

William B. “Billy” Gillam Sr., 71, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at the Medical University Hospital in Charleston.
Mr. Gillam was born in Columbia Sept. 2, 1938. He was the son of the late William Marshall and Myrtle Barker Gillam.
Mr. Gillam graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1961 with a mechanical engineering degree.
He was a strong supporter of the University of South Carolina and its satellite campuses. He was a founder and former owner of Gillam and Associates Inc. He was a member of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, an elder and was an active trustee.
Mr. Gillam was a member of the Western Carolina Higher Education Commission. He was a former member of the Presbyterian College board of trustees, a supporter of the Thornwell Home for Children and a board member of the Carolina Honduras Health Foundation.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Feb. 10 at the Barnwell Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Turner and the Rev. Dr. John Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mole Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barnwell Presbyterian Church scholarship fund, P.O. Box 466, Barnwell, S.C. 29812 or the Ernestine A. and William B. Gillam scholarship fund at Presbyterian College, 503 S. Broad St., Clinton S.C. 29325.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Atteberry Gillam of Barnwell, sons, Bill Gillam, Jr.  and his wife Cim of Columbia, Marty Gillam and his wife Ann of Aiken SC., grandchildren, Ann-Marshall Gillam, Lily Gillam and Ella Gillam, sister, Marcia May of North Augusta.
