Wilmort Fields
Wilmort Fields, 67, of Allendale, departed this earthly life Friday, January 13, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Allendale Community Funeral Home with the Reverend Leonard Ritter Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnwell.
Mr. Fields was born on August 7, 1944 to the late Perstein Hay and Mary Ethel Jacobs in Allendale.
Mr. Fields was educated in Allendale County Schools. At an early age, he entered the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He retired in 1969 after serving honorably. He received the following honorary awards for his outstanding service to his country: Silver Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
He was the owner and operator of Fields Lounge on Flat Street for many years. He was a very compassionate person and always spoke what was on his mind.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mammie Lue Fields.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories, three sons: Quille (Gwendolyn) Ferguson and Major Flowers of the home, Albert (Beverly) Brooker of Orangeburg; two daughters, Rosa Lee Ferguson and Redesha Flowers both of Allendale; six brothers, Perstein (Hazel) Hay and Herbert Flowers both of Cocoa, Fla., General (Charlotte) Fields of Gary, Ind., Carl (Earline) Kearse, Willie (Nel) Fields and Trenton Kearse all of Allendale; five sisters, Kathleen Flowers and Mary Helen Flowers, both of Cocoa, Fla., Mary (George) Jackson and Pearl (James) Ferguson, both of Savannah, Ga. and Barbara Wright of Barnwell; 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a special nephew, Sherman Fields of Allendale; special cousin, Kenneth Williams of Allendale; four special friends: Janie Flowers, Louise Hightower and Willie Bing of Allendale, and Jane Allen of Columbia; and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Allendale Community Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
