Susie Russell Thomas (Fairfax)

Susie Russell Thomas, age 88, wife of Billy A. Thomas, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at her residence in Fairfax.

Mrs. Thomas was a native of Bamberg, and a daughter of the late John Marvin and Marie Crummie Russell. She was a homemaker and member of Bethel Baptist Church. Susie was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, active in church and community organizations and she loved to bake and share it with the community.

Verna Murphy (Williston)

Funeral services for Verna Givens Murphy, 84, of Williston, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with the Reverend Floyd Dukes officiating; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Donations may be given in Verna’s memory to the Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. James W. Blackwell Sr. (Barnwell)

James W. Blackwell Sr., 80, of Barnwell, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the Hitchcock Center in Aiken.

J.W. was born on February 28, 1937 in Stilson, Georgia. He was a son of the late James Rufus and Mariee Blackwell Sheffield. He retired from the U.S. Navy and had served in Vietnam. He was a retired systems analyst with Northrop-Drummond Corp.

Laura Chavis (Blackville)

Funeral service for Laura Bell Jeffcoat Chavis, 70, of Blackville, will be held 3 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Laura passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018.

Born in Old Dunbarton, she was a daughter of the late John Jay Jeffcoat and Lottie Bell Kennedy Jeffcoat and was married to the late Clyde Chavis. She was a member of Ashleigh Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

J.L. 'Jake' Keele (Barnwell)

J.L. “Jake” Keele, 92, of Barnwell, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.

Mr. Jake was born April 29, 1925 in Aiken and was a son of the late Lonnie and Nellie Toole Keele. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and retired millwright having worked at Shuron Inc. and Allied General. He was a devoted member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends.

Tommy Sweat Jr. (Barnwell)

Funeral services for Tommy Sweat Jr., 64, of Barnwell, were held 1 o’clock p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with burial at the Barnwell County Cemetery by the airport. The family received friends from 11 o’clock a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Tommy passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Frank Sweat and Florrie Still Sweat. He previously worked at Sandoz; loved fishing and hunting; was a Barnwell Warhorse and Carolina Gamecocks fan.

Donna Givens (Williston)

A Memorial Service for Donna Elizabeth Miller Givens, 69, of Williston, will be held 3 o’clock p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2018 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home on Sunday.

Donna passed away on January 18, 2018.

Annie Ruth Tilley McCrary (Siler City, N.C.)

Annie Ruth Tilley McCrary, the daughter of the late James Tilley and Rena Mack of Panama City, Florida, was born on October 10, 1951 in Barnwell County. She entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

She received her education in the Allendale County Public School System. She worked at various jobs, including Sara Lee Sock/Hosiery Company, Milliken, SRP and King Bar-B-Que, until her health declined.

Dorothy Cheek Still (Barnwell, SC & Richmond, Va.)

Dorothy Cheek Still, 92, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 in Retreat Doctors Hospital in Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Still was born on April 1, 1925 in Barnwell and was a daughter of the late Randolph and Mattie Cheek. She was a retired employee of the Bell South Company. She was attended Saint Andrews Catholic Church of Barnwell. She was a loving and devoted mother.

Mary Drayton 'Dray' Meyer (Barton)

Mary Drayton “Dray” Robertson Meyer, age 74, of Barton, and the widow of the late Ralph “Jackie” Meyer died Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Mrs. Meyer was a born in Ridgeland and a daughter of the late William Madison and Flossie Hamilton Robertson. She was a hairdresser having worked at Nor-Lena’s Hair Stylist for many years, was a member of Fairfax Chapter #65 O.E.S. and a member of Brunson Christian Church. Dray was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Faye Blackwell (Williston)

A Graveside Funeral Service for Doris Faye Coffey Blackwell, 85, of Williston, was held 2 o’clock p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Williston Cemetery with the Reverend Dan Fogle officiating.

Faye passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Born in Fyffe, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Buster Taft Coffey and Brunell Graves Coffey and was married to the late L Q Blackwell. She was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Faye was a loving wife and mother.

Jamie Lee (Barnwell)

Home Going celebration for Mr. Jamie Lee of Barnwell was held on Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Main Street Church of Christ in Williston where Brother Dennis Pernell is pastor and officiating. Interment followed in the Blackville Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Friday December 29, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Jamie Lee, 45, was born on September 8, 1972 to Mrs. Shirley Ann Lee Hunter and the late Mr. Herbert Hicks in Bamberg County.

Arnold Anderson (Blackville)

Funeral services for Mr. Arnold Anderson of Blackville were held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Shrub Branch Baptist Church in Blackville where the Reverend McKinley Neal is the pastor and eulogist and Evangelist Gwendolyn Neal, presiding. Interment followed in the family plot in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held from 12 noon until the hour of service.

Mr. Arnold Anderson, 72, was born on May 4, 1945 to the late Mr. John and Mrs. Fannie Williams Anderson in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Annie Agnes 'Dolly' Short (Barnwell)

Annie Agnes “Dolly” Boyd Short, 98, of Barnwell, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

Dolly was born on July 4, 1919 in Augusta, Georgia and was a daughter of the late Walton Saxon and Eva Bell Ferguson Boyd. She retired after 25 years from the Veterans Administration Canteen Service having worked in Augusta and Decatur, Georgia. She was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church. She was a member of The Young at Heart at First Baptist Church and the Busy Bees.

Helen Hightower Shealy (Barnwell)

Funeral services for Helen Black Hightower Shealy, 96, of Barnwell will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rommie Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Reedy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home, 9399 Patterson St., Barnwell, SC 29812.

Helen went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Robert Jacobs (Barnwell)

Mr. Robert Jacobs departed this life Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home.

Born on September 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Robert and Ellen Jacobs. At an early age he joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church and remained active until his illness.

Jacobs was a Navy veteran who devotedly served his country as a chef during World War II.

He was joined in matrimony to Virgie Jacobs who preceded him in death. To this union nine children were born. Three preceded him in death: Terrence, Ada, and Phyllis Jacobs.

Marian F. Davis (Springfield)

Funeral services for Marian Fogle Davis, 89, of Springfield, will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Springfield with the Reverends Jarrod Pemper and Henry Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Neeses. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Springfield, P.O. Box 368, Springfield, SC 29146.

Mrs. Marian passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
