Karen Lynn Benton Henderson

Karen Lynn Benton Henderson, 37, of Barnwell, died Feb. 11, 2009.

Funeral service was held Feb. 14 at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jule Young and R. P. Hodge officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Keith Smith Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Henderson was a native of Allendale County. She was the daughter of J. Warren Benton and the late Katherine Rebecca Cook Benton. She was the widow of the late James M. Henderson. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Curtis Mack

Curtis Mack, 50, died Feb. 10, 2009 at the Regional Medical Centers of Orangeburg.

Funeral service was held Feb. 14 at Macedonia Baptist Church of Blackville with the Rev. Floyd Hughes Sr. officiating. Burial was in the Blackville Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Mack was born Sept. 17, 1958 in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Filmore Sr. and Mildred Lloyd Mack. He was employed with the Blackville Public School District No. 19. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.

Frances Owensby Morehead

Frances Owensby Morehead, 83, died Feb. 13, 2009.

Funeral service was held Feb. 16 at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Neeses with the Revs. Robert Culbertson and the R.L. Brown officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery of Norway. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Morehead was born Jan. 26, 1926 in Charlotte N.C. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Minnie Burwell Owensby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, the Rev. R. B. Morehead.

Michael B. Mullenix

Michael B Mullenix, 61, of Fond du Lac, Wis. died Feb. 12, 2009 at Hospice Home of Hope after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Memorial service was held Feb. 21 at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home.

Chasity Shannon Guinn Williams

Chasity Shannon Guinn Williams, 22, of Barnwell, died Feb. 13, 2009 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thompson, Ga., after battling injuries sustained in an accident in 2007.

Funeral service was held Feb. 16 at the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Burial was in the Little Swamp United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Williams was born Oct. 26, 1986 in Bamberg County. She was the daughter of Kenneth Murray Guinn and Stephany Michelle Searson. She was a waitress at Shoney's in Aiken. She was predeceased by a grandfather, Ronnie Guinn.

Virginia Laura Thorne Chancy

Virginia Laura Thorne Chancy, 85, of Barnwell, died Feb. 2, 2009 at the Aiken Regional Hospital in Aiken, following an extended illness.

Funeral service was held Feb. 6 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Burial was in the Offerman Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear was in charge of the arrangements.

Lizzie Bradley

Lizzie Bradley, 90, of Blackville, died Feb. 3, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service was held Feb. 8 at Shrub Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Blackville with the Rev. Mckinley Neal and Ministers, Gwendolyn Neal and Larry Ephriam officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Green's Funeral Home of Blackville was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Brown

Thomas Brown, 87, of Allendale, died Feb. 1, 2009.

Funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Allendale, with burial in the Bentley Cemetery with Military Rites. Cave Funeral Services, Inc. of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Brown was the son of John and Phoble Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Virginia Gillyard Brown; children, Elizabeth B. Tigler, Ruthia B. Berry, Sherry B. Garvin, Thomas L. Brown Jr. and Paticia Brown and six grandchildren.

Devada Lucinda Brown Gilbert

Devada Lucinda Brown Gilbert, 84, of Barnwell, died Feb. 2, 2009.

Funeral service was held Feb. 5 at Dyches Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Gable officiating. Burial was in the Boiling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Barnwell. Dyches Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gilbert was born in Wise County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Aaron J. and Elizabeth Brown. She was retired from Kmart and a member of the First Assembly Church of God.

Julia Ann Cave Patterson

Julia Ann Cave Patterson, 69, of Barnwell, died Feb. 1, 2009.

Funeral service was held Feb. 7 at St. John Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Cave Funeral Services, Inc of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Patterson was the daughter of James and Julia Wallace Cave.

Mary Lott Smith

Mary Lott Smith, 76, of Williston, died Feb. 3, 2009 at her residence.

Funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Williston First Baptist Church with Dr. David Richardson officiating. Burial was in the Williston Cemetery. Folk Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of the arrangements.

Ella Mae Peeples

Ella Mae Peeples, of Brooklyn, N. Y. died Jan. 23, 2009 after a lingering illness.

Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at First Baptist Church of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, with burial in the Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N. Y.

Tillie Lee Phipps

Tillie Lee Phipps, of Williston, died Feb. 7, 2009.

Funeral service was held Feb. 10 at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel. Burial was in the Carolina Memorial Park. J. Henry Stuhr Inc., was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Phipps was born March 27, 1927 in Conway. He was the son of Doctor Phipps and Bessie Hinson Phipps. He was married to Carrie Lee Phipps. He was a navy veteran of World War II and pastored Nazarene churches for over 40 years. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary P. Brown.

Alphonso Isiah Youmans

Alphonso Isiah Youmans Sr., 45, of Barnwell, died Jan. 24, 2009.

Funeral service was held Jan. 31 at the Allendale National Guard Armory with burial in the Rizer Chapel UM Cemetery.

Cave Funeral Services, Inc. of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Youmans was the son of Ella Elizabeth Youmans Crosby ad Isiah Smith.

Lowman Still

Lowman Still, 61, of Barnwell, died Jan. 28, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral service was held Jan. 30 at Greenbranch Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Leroy Dobson, Alfred Still and Raymond Satterfield officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Dyches Funeral Home of Barnwell was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Still was born in Barnwell County. He was the son of the late Levy Still and Ida Mae Grubbs. He retired from Milliken textile after 40 years. He was a member and deacon at Greenbranch Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Manderlene Ritter Youmans

Manderlene Ritter Youmans, 52, of Allendale, died Jan. 26, 2009.

Funeral service was held Jan. 31 at St. Luke Baptist Church with burial in the Hoover Cemetery.

Cave Funeral Services, Inc. of Allendale was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Youmans was the daughter of Mary Alice Smalls Ritter and the late Clyde Ritter Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie James Youmans; children, Shalonda L. Youmans and Johnnie J. Youmans Jr., her mother; one brother, Clyde Ritter Jr. and four grandchildren.

Jack Ray, 78, of Orangeburg, died Jan. 31, 2009 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
