James Arthur Creech (Summerville)

Henry Arthur Creech, 86, of Summerville, died Sunday, December 17, 2017.

His funeral service will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 in Deer Park Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Barnwell County Memory Gardens (2624 Reynolds Road) at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bebeta Blume (Denmark)

Funeral services for Bebeta “Betty” Martin Blume, 75, of Denmark, will be held 2 o’clock p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with the Reverend Matt Thomas and Dr. Thomas Terry officiating; burial will be in Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Gregg Covington, Terry Dyches, Steve Martin, F. C. Noles, Billy Turner, Mark Whetstone and Phillip Whetstone.

Jason Schumpert (Elko)

Funeral services for Jason Allen Schumpert, 43, of Elko, will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, December 17, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Tom Baker officiating; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery. Nora Brabham Riley (Barnwell)

Nora Brabham Riley, 98, of Barnwell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in the John Edward Harter Nursing Home in Fairfax.

Mrs. Riley was born in Allendale County on June 30, 1919 and was a daughter of the late Hallie Benjamin and Elizabeth Ferguson Brabham. She was the widow of John W. “Billy” Riley. Mrs. Nora was a retired store manager for Barnwell Factory Outlet, a member of Barnwell First Baptist Church and Harmony Hope Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Joseph “Joe” Layton Simmons (Barnwell)

Joseph Layton “Joe” Simmons, 70, of Barnwell, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in the Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Joe was born in Barnwell County on September 12, 1947 and was a son of the late Lewis and Marie Gleaton Simmons. He was a retired farm worker and carpenter.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at Seven Pines Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Mole Funeral Home.

John Wesley Deer Jr. (Olar)

John Wesley Deer Jr., 62, of Olar, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Mr. Deer was born on July 13, 1955 in Columbia. He was a son of the late John Wesley Deer Sr. and Margie Reed Deer. He was a graduate of Newberry College and was a retired engineer with the CSX Railroad. He was a member of Olar First Baptist Church. He had coached football, basketball, and softball at Jefferson Davis Academy, Barnwell High School, and Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. He was an avid Clemson football fan and was a loving father and grandfather.

Bob Jolley (New Ellenton)

Heaven’s Gain Is Our Loss…….

Bob Jolley (Buren Lee), 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from complications of a stroke that he had on July 24, 2017. He was born June 29, 1931 in Shelby, N.C. to the late Robert and Lorena Jolley.

Bob loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a gifted athlete and in 1949 signed with a professional baseball team–RC Owls. This was short–lived due to the Korean War. Fortunately, while proudly serving his country in the Navy, he was able to play baseball and serve as manager of a football team.

Sara M. Dyches (Hilda)

Funeral services for Sara McElhenny Dyches, 92, of Hilda, will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with Dr. Thomas Terry officiating; burial will be in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dyches passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

Dirk W. Byrd (Williston)

Funeral services for Dirk William Byrd, 63, of Williston, will be held 11 o’clock a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with Dr. Chris Mullennix officiating; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery with Military Honors accorded. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Williston Cemetery, P.O. Dirk passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017.

Gloria Jean Cohen (Allendale)

Ms. Gloria Jean Cohen, aka “Peaches”, age 54, was born on September 27, 1963, in Allendale to Josephine Bassett and James Ward.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance, she joined the Doe Pond Missionary Baptist Church in Martin.

She was a 1981 graduate from Allendale-Fairfax High School in Allendale and later furthered her education at Benedict College in Columbia and OC Tech in Orangeburg where she studied Child Care and Business Administration.

She worked at the Allendale-Barnwell DSN Board / Children’s Center.

Russell L. Garrett (Barnwell)

Mr. Russell L. Garrett, age 67, was born on October 24, 1950 in Dunbarton to the late Bennie Bower and the late Mattie Garrett.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance, at an early age, he joined Ned Branch Baptist Church in Barnwell in 1962 where he served on the Usher Board and as a Trustee.

He received his education at Barnwell High School in Barnwell and worked at Milliken Textile for 10 years. He opened his auto body shop in Barnwell from 1985 to 2005.

Desmond Logan Vincent Jr. (Orangeburg)

Mr. Desmond Logan Vincent Jr., 34, of 2119 Clay Street, Orangeburg, died suddenly at Providence Health on November 27, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Saint Paul Baptist Church with Pastor C. Priester Sr. officiating. The casket will be placed in church at 1 p.m.

Viewing will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Faye Evans McAlister (Williston)

Funeral services for Faye Evans McAlister, 87, of Williston, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with the Reverend Floyd Dukes officiating. Burial will be at The Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lassie E. Sanders, 58, of 233 Emily Circle, Barnwell, died on November 20, 2017 at home.

Born on April 21, 1959, he was the son of the late Farrell Duncan and Emily L. Sanders.

Funeral service was held on November 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Guinyard & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Informal visitation was held Thursday, November 24, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Guinyard and Sons Funeral Home.

John C. Bell (Williston)

Funeral services for John Colie “Buckshot” Bell, 42, of Williston, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with burial at the Williston Cemetery with U.S. Marines Military Honors accorded. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

David E. 'Gene' Cook Sr. (Allendale)

David E. “Gene” Cook Sr., 73, of Allendale, the husband of Miriam U. Cook, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Mr. Cook was born on July 14, 1944 and was the son of the late David D. “Buddy” and Margie Cook. He was a U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a former Assistant Chief of the Allendale Police Department, and retired from Mixon Transport.
He was a member and former Deacon of Allendale First Baptist Church. Gene loved fishing, hunting, and sharing a good story that he swore was the truth.

Erma O. Sweat (Williston)

Funeral services for Erma Owens Sweat, 71, of Williston, will be held 2 o’clock p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with burial in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 21 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Erma passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Ruth Still Godbold (Bamberg)

Funeral services for Ruth Still Godbold, 74, of Bamberg, will be held 2 o’clock p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Bamberg with the Reverends Clyde Bearden and Donnie Delk officiating; burial will be in the Hilda Southern Methodist Church Cemetery.
