Funeral services for Freddie Buist McKerley Jr., 70, of Elko, will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston; burial will be at the Williston Cemetery. Mrs. Iris Lennette Hayes-Graham, age 59, was born on March 28, 1958, in Barnwell County to the late Thomas Frederick Sr. and the late Francis L. Hayes-Frederick, but was reared in the home by her grandparents, the late Curtis and Helen Hayes.
George Juward Elmore was born on June 17, 1997 to George Howard Elmore and Stacey Allen Elmore in Allendale.
He graduated from Allendale-Fairfax High School in Allendale and worked for Walmart. He enjoyed football; his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.
He departed this life on August 5, 2017 in Augusta, Ga.
Mr. Willie Gloster, 78, departed this life on August 7, 2017, at home with his family by his side.
Willie was born March 27, 1939, in Barnwell to the late Elmore and Ella Gloster.
Seeking God’s direction and guidance, he joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Blackville where he served as a member.
He attended the Macedonia/Pilgrim Rest School in Blackville and worked at Rheem Manufacturing and Dixie Narco in Williston as a welder for many years before retiring.
Mrs. Narvia L. Moore, aka “Narvia Lee”, age 70, was born on November 27, 1946, in Barnwell to the late Julia Tilley and the late Archie Kennedy but reared by the late George and Florence Dunbar.
Seeking God’s direction and guidance, she joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnwell where she was on the kitchen committee, Trustee Board, and sang in the Choir. She was also a member of the Green Branch Benevolent Christian Society, and the Barnwell/Kline County Family and Community Leaders Club for over 40 years.
Mr. Lucious Williams Jr., aka “Luke”, age 69, was born on March 15, 1948, in Barnwell to the late Lucious Williams Sr. and the late Queen Esther Williams.
Seeking God’s direction and guidance, at an early age, he joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnwell. He received his education at the Butler High School in Barnwell, and worked at Milliken Textile as an Inspector for 40 years before retiring. He loved sports and was one of the players on the 1966 Football Team when they won the State Championship.
Mr. Kenneth Oestricher, aka “Brother.” age 84, was born on February 14, 1933, in Allendale County, South Carolina to the late Joe and Lena Oestricher.
At an early age, he sought God’s direction and guidance, and joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Martin where he served as a faithful member until his health declined.
He was educated at Jackwood Public School in Allendale County, and worked in construction for many years.
Mother Nina Mae Raysor, aka “Mae”, age 88, was born on October 23, 1928, in Blackville to the late Purvis and Lelar Lee.
Seeking God’s direction and guidance, she joined Faith Ministry in Denmark where she was Mother of the Church.
“Mae”, as she was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends, and she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed making crafts and designing shirts and hats. Black and white was her favorite color.
She was married to the late Charles H. Raysor for 67 years.
Mr. Lenwood Lee Carter, aka “Bummie.” age 58, of Fairfax, was born on August 19, 1958, in Fairfax, South Carolina to the late Luther Carter Sr. and the late Janie Lee Youmans Carter.
At an early age, he sought God’s direction and guidance, and joined the St. Luke Baptist Church in Fairfax where he served on the usher board until his health began to fail.
He received his education in the public schools of Allendale, South Carolina, and worked as a Chipper Operator at the lumber mill for many years.
William Hayzen Black passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 1:07 a.m. on August 18, 2017 after an extended courageous battle with cancer.
Hayzen was born on October 2, 1940 in Blackville. He was the only child of Virginia Black Johns, who preceded him in death.
Mark Warren White, of Allendale, the son of Martha White and the late Tom C. White, died August 13, 2017.
He was born April 9, 1961 in Spartanburg, and spent most of his life in Allendale. He has two sisters, Eunice Horne (David) of Estill and Esther Wilson (John) of Spanish Fort, AL; two nieces, Alexandria Wilson and Claire Wilson, and one nephew, Jack Wilson. Mark graduated from USC Salkehatchie with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts.
JoAnne Wicker Holbrook, 72, of Barnwell, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, August 13, 2017 surrounded by family. Family has requested a private service.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel Wicker and Addie Lee Lewis. She loved crocheting, cooking and canning. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.
Funeral services for Jessie Ball Williams, 83, of Gaston, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Sunny Vista Church of God, North, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Reverends Obed Ortiz and Bobby Gene Williams will be officiating. Jessie King Bowers, 83, of Allendale, died peacefully on August 12, 2017 at John Edward Harter Nursing Center.
Mrs. Bowers was a retired, long-time resident of Allendale, and the daughter of the late James Ruby King and the late Virgie Ashley Smith. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Barnwell.
Funeral services will be August 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 8744 Marlboro Ave., Barnwell, with the Reverend Dean Deer officiating. A private family interment will follow at Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale.
Graveside funeral services for Violet Widener Pennington, 84, of Williston, were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Violet passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
Born in Aiken County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Abram and Nettie Widener and was married to the late James Rudolph Pennington. She was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist church and was a homemaker.
Barbara Brett Smith, 76, of Allendale, widow of the late Robert Taylor Smith, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Bartow, Ga. and a daughter of the late John Herbert and Pearl Fortner Brett. She was a former member of Allendale County Rescue Squad, Past Worthy Matron of Fairfax Chapter #65 O.E.S. and a member of Allendale First Baptist Church.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Swallow Savannah Cemetery.
Ms. Ogreta Keller, 89, of Barnwell, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 7, 2017 in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9 at Dyches Funeral Home Chapel in Barnwell with the Rev. Toby Jones officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Barnwell County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Leon Robinson Jr. was born on September 17, 1959 in Barnwell County to the late Leon Robinson Sr. and the late Annie Lee Batie. He entered into eternal rest at his residence on July 25, 2017.
Early in life he joined the Frost Branch Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully. He also was a member of the Green Branch Christian Benevolent Society.
