Shirley Ann Wright Rice (Fairfax)

Mrs. Shirley Ann Wright Rice, age 53, was born on March 21, 1964, in Crescent City, Fla. to the late Oregon and Aretha M. Wright.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance, she joined the Trinity Church of God in Allendale, where she served faithfully as Mother of the Church, and on the Kitchen Ministry until her health began to fail.

She graduated from Allendale-Fairfax High School in Allendale, and worked at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton for 12 years, and Cracker Barrel for 16 years as a Chef and Cook.

Walter Chappel (Barnwell)

Walter Chappel was born on July 30, 1939, in Union Hospital, Brooklyn, New York, to the late Joseph S. Chappel and Edna Mae Smith Chappel. Walter was the third of four siblings and was preceded in death by his younger brother, Marvin, and older sister, Lorraine.

Walter received his early education in Brooklyn, New York, and after the family moved to Queens, he attended and graduated from Newtown High School in June 1957. Soon after graduation, Walter joined the United States Navy, where he served on the USS/LUCE for four years and was honorably discharged in 1962.

Susie Mae Barker (Allendale)

Ms. Susie Mae Barker, age 65, was born on November 25, 1951, in Allendale to the late James and Eva Nell Barker.

She received her education in the public school system of Allendale. She worked as a cook in the school cafeteria, at E.T. Barwick for four years and Burlington for four years.

Susie will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends, and she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Our Heavenly Father called her from labor to reward on September 26, 2017, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Mary Gantt Wilson (Allendale)

Mrs. Mary L. Gantt Wilson, aka “Blue Juice”, age 60, was born on November 8, 1956, in Allendale to the late Eddie and Maggie Gantt. She received her education at CV Bing High School in Allendale before moving to Florida.

“Blue Juice”, as she was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends, and she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Kishon O. Priester (Alabama)

Mr. Kishon O. Priester, aka “Bleek”, age 31, was born on September 2, 1986, in Charleston to James Priester and the late Gloria Bellmon.

He received his education in the public school system of Allendale and later moved to Opelika, Ala.

“Bleek”, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Dr. Richard E. 'R.E.B.' Boyles Sr. (Barnwell)

Dr. Richard E. “R.E.B.” Boyles Sr., age 94, husband of Gladys S. Boyles, died Friday, September, 29, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Boyles was born in Seigling and was the son of the late Jamie and Lucille Creech Boyles. He was a U.S. Air Force WWII Veteran and an Optometrist having practice in Allendale for over fifty years.

Dr. Boyles loved the Town of Allendale and served as Mayor, Councilman and Judge. He was a member and served in many capacities of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion.

Catherine Merle Folk Hindman (Bamberg)

Mrs. Catherine Merle Hindman of Bamberg entered into eternal rest on September 28, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at her residence.

Merle was the widow of Chester Eugene Hindman. She was predeceased by her parents, Hammie Oscar and Ida Mae Folk. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Perzie Folk, Jim Folk, Herman Folk, and LaVerne Folk; and two sisters, Shirley Myers and Carolyn Kirkland. She was survived by one brother, Franklin Folk. Merle was born September 24, 1931.

Karen Lisa Walsh

Funeral services will be held for Karen Lisa Walsh at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Visitation will be at 1p.m. while services will be at 2 p.m.

She passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

Lisa was born and raised in Barnwell, graduating from Barnwell High School in 1974, where she was a cheerleader and active in many school activities. She graduated from USC-Aiken with a RN degree, she served in hospitals in Aiken, Barnwell and Atlanta before finishing her working career in Augusta, Ga. as a physical therapist.

Martha Ann Runkle (Williston)

Funeral services for Martha Ann Aubert Runkle, 59, of Williston, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Martha passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Born in Barnwell, she was a daughter of Ruby M. Sweat Aubert and the late Kenneth A. Aubert. Martha worked as a shift manager at Pizza Hut in Barnwell for many years. She attended St. Andrews Catholic Church and various other Catholic churches.

Lucille Houston (New York City, N.Y.)

Lucille Houston, one of 12 children born to the late Joseph and Lucille Sanders, departed this life into everlasting peace on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

She was born on November 2, 1939 in Barnwell where she received her early education. Lucille later married Leroy Houston, who preceded her in death. She moved to New York City where she raised her six children and was a wonderful mother who loved and supported them.

Jack H. Keel (Barnwell)

Mr. Jack H. Keel, 86, passed away at his residence in Barnwell on Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Mr. Keel was born in the Long Branch community of Barnwell County on March 31, 1931. He was the son of the late James Robert Keel Sr. and Lelia Hair Keel. He was married to Mary Bodiford Keel for 64 years.

Minister Adele Anderson (Little River)

Minister Adele B. Anderson, 92, was born on December 17, 1924 in Barnwell. The gentle touch of our Heavenly Father beckoned her home to rest from the Pruitt Health Center in Barnwell on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017.

Minister Anderson was a daughter of the late Rubin and Della Collins Priester. Minister Anderson was affectionately known as “Nana” and “Doot”. She began her spiritual development at an early age when she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Barnwell.

Lewis Lynwood Paynter (Barnwell)

Lewis Lynwood Paynter was born on December 28, 1936, in Woodbury, New Jersey to the late Octavious E. Sr. and the late Evelyn B. Paynter. He transitioned peacefully on September 8, 2017, at Pruitt Health in Aiken.

Lewis nickname among his military friends was “Peso” (but he was affectionately known as “Sweetie”) and he was educated in the public school system in Woodbury, New Jersey. After high school, Lewis was briefly employed at a cigar factory.

Sammie Lee Kelly (Allendale)

Mr. Sammie Lee Kelly, aka “Sam”, age 70, was born on August 5, 1947, in Allendale to Dora Bradley Kelly.

He received his education at Job Corps in Bamberg, and worked in landscaping for many years.

“Sam”, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends, and he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Besides his father and grandparents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, one son-in-law, two brothers, one sister and one brother-in-law.

Grace Maude Jackson Tripp (Barnwell)

Grace Maude Jackson Tripp, 85, of Barnwell, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by friends and caregivers.

Grace was born at North Pharsalia, N.Y. on June 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Leslie M Jackson and Maude Violet Ellsworth Jackson. She graduated in 1950 from Truxton High School in New York.

Angelia 'Angie' Lewis (Barnwell)

Angelia “Angie” Louise Lewis, 65, of Barnwell, passed away September 15, 2017 at University Hospital surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 18 at 11 a.m. at Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church, Barnwell, with the Father Wilbroad Mwape officiating. Burial will be at the Barnwell County Memory Gardens. Visitation was held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Dyches Funeral Home, Barnwell.

Dewey Frontis Garvin (Franklin, Ga.)

Dewey Frontis Garvin, age 83 of Franklin, Georgia passed away September 16, 2017.

He was born September 18, 1933 in Aiken County, son of the late Dewey Garvin and Alma Scott Garvin. He began his working career as a farmer, worked as a heavy equipment operator and ended his career as an employee of Carrollton High School. He was a member of Glenloch Baptist Church.
