Appreciation given for city celebrations efforts
On behalf of the City of Barnwell, I would like to express my deepest appreciation for all of the assistance during the preparing and conducting of the City Christmas Events.
First, I thank all of the city employees who went over and beyond to decorate our city. I thank Charles Burbage for his hard work in creating one tall tree out of two separate trees. Thanks to the street department, water department and fire department for their assistance. We also thank SCE&G for placing our snowflakes all over town and electrical work on several poles. Thank you to Rovella Phillips and others who volunteered as well to get the job done.
We couldn’t have had such a successful Christmas Tree Lighting with Love Lights, Christmas by Candlelight and Parade without everyone coming together. We thank The People-Sentinel and The Barnwell Development Association for sponsoring our Love Light Program, which has raised over $1,200 for the elderly in the community this year.
Thanks to all those who donated to the Love Light Program.
We also appreciate our sponsors for the Snow Machines for Thursday night: City of Barnwell, Barnwell Development Association, Hunter & Oates LLC (Edisto Outdoors), Palmetto Dentistry LLC, Southeastern Insurance Consultants – J. Sam Plexico, Specs Vision Center of Aiken Inc., Wade’s Repair Service and other anonymous donors.
To all those that made Thursday night come together: Gary Brantley, First Baptist Church, Michael Pisacreta, Kaye Pattillo, volunteer singers from several churches, Barnwell County Ministerial Association and volunteer readers, Pruitt Health Nursing Home volunteers, and again, the City of Barnwell employees, especially our police department. Chief Black and his department kept everything going smoothly all weekend long.
We were so proud to have Keyshawn Jenkins and Cody Jackson of the Barnwell Warhorse football team light our Christmas Tree. We wish them all the best in their upcoming Lower State Championship game.
I also want to thank Clem and Brannon Collins and Santa and Mrs. Claus for joining us for pictures in the old Police Station.
Our parade also went off without too many hitches.
Thanks to all of the volunteers, including Boy Scouts and leaders, Church of the Latter Day Saints Missionary volunteers, Rovella Phillips (BDA Board member) and Willie Brown of the Recreation Department. Thank you to the Water & Recreation Departments for the use of the golf carts. Thanks to Carl Gooding and WDOG as well as Gary Brantley for broadcasting the parade. Thank you to our judges, Mrs. Garnette Alexander, Dr. Craig Wix and Mr. Richard Duerinckx for judging the parade entries.
Our Grand Marshall this year was Sheriff Ed Carroll. We thank him for his continued service as our county sheriff and leading such a great team of men and women in his department.
Lastly, thanks to all of the participants and spectators who came out to enjoy all of the activities. We hope that you enjoyed it. It is all for you.
Lynn S. McEwen,
