Congratulations to the Clemson Tigers on winning the national football championship game Monday night in Tampa, Florida.
The entire team worked hard all season. In Monday’s championship game, the Tigers did not give up when they were behind by three points with just seconds left on the clock. A last-second touchdown sealed the win for the Tigers.
We are especially proud of Williston native Taylor Hearn, who wears the #51 jersey for the Tigers. Even if you are not a Clemson fan, we hope you will show support for one of our own.
Two other locals had a special part in the game on the Tigers’ side. Barnwell native Laura Burckhalter twirled a baton while Williston native and recent Clemson graduate Gabrielle “Gabby” Bates reported from Tampa for The Clemson Insider.
On the Alabama side, we’d like to congratulate Barnwell native Riley Ridgeway for participating at the game and representing our community.
It’s definitely a unique feat to have Barnwell County represented on both teams in a national championship game. What a way to highlight some of the talent from our community.
We hope the example set by these four young people inspires others to work hard to make their dreams come true. Coming from a small town does not mean you can’t accomplish mighty things.
Whether you cheered for Clemson or Alabama, we encourage you to congratulate these four young people.
