Week 5 of Church Covenants: Driving Spirit of the Covenant

It’s hard to believe this is week five of rediscovering the Church Covenant.

The central theme is this: Christian fellowship is a family kinship that extends beyond church boundaries. Wherever you go, even to another city or state, you meet Christians and you feel right at home.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

The Christian fellowship is like a family kinship. It is indeed a fellowship the world knows nothing about. Like a family, regardless of what happens, even if a child disappoints you or breaks your heart, he is still your child. Nothing will ever change that. Once you are a Child of God, you are always a Child of God.

We are brothers and sisters in Christ, and God is our Father. Don’t talk about God as your Father without the church being your family. That’s who we are – the Family of God. It is a life-long relationship.

This is the way it is in the church. We are a spiritual family. It’s a continuous covenant. The covenant relationship continues regardless of where we may move, even to another city or state.

It is a driving covenant. When we move to another location, we should join another church as soon as possible.

We are driven by the spirit of Jesus Christ to unite with other Christians of like faith. Remember the Church Covenant is based on Jesus Christ, His grace, His promise of eternal life, His promise to supply all of our needs. We are led by the Holy Spirit of God to magnify his church and recognize our relationship and responsibility to one another.

There is joy and love in our faith. It is the tie that binds. “Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love, the fellowship of kindred minds, is like to that above.”

I have enjoyed sharing the Church Covenant with you for the past five weeks. I hope you have rediscovered how important the covenant is to you. I hope all of us have been reminded of the day that Jesus Christ called us to receive Him as Lord and Savior, and we are in the Family of God, with God our Father. We love His church and what the church stands for, and we are glad to be a part of the mission of the church: to be His witness.

May God bless you as you are faithful to the church. You are a member of what’s a privilege. What an awesome responsibility.

May God bless you and your church family.
