Blackville matriarch grateful for attention during recuperation

Dear Editor:

From a heart of love and gratitude, I thank you for the acts of kindness shown to me during the past seven months. Your interest in me, via telephone calls, the hundreds of cards, the many flowers, gifts, meals, visits and those of you transporting Buck to see me everyday and most of all, your prayers and love for me are indescribable.

On May 30, 2009, I had a stroke as I attempted to visit my aunt, Myrl Still. Someone passing by saw me in the yard and called for help.

Because of the efficiency and quick thinking of the Barnwell County emergency room doctor and staff and the transfer to MCG for surgery, I survived. I was moved from MCG to Select Care, Walton Rehabilitation Center in Augusta and then to Laurel Baye Nursing Home in Williston. During this time many of you have visited the CaringBridge Web site, begun by Sandra Lott.

I have also been blessed by so many of my former students, who still take the time to visit and express their love for me.

I came home Nov. 5 in time to celebrate my 81st birthday. I cannot walk without full assistance, but overall and completely out the fast lane, I have become well acquainted with my wheelchair. Please continue to pray for me and my caregivers.

It is still a mystery who the person is who saw me and called for help. Please let us know who you are.

Sincerely,

Arie Black Guess,
Barnwell
