Superintendent Clamp announces retirement

Dear Editor,
After much prayer, consultation and deliberation, it has become evident that it is time for me to announce my retirement from the position of superintendent of Williston School District No. 29 effective June 30, 2012. As a 1969 graduate of Williston-Elko High School, it has been my greatest career accomplishment to return to my home to serve the students and families as an educator.
I believe our school system is in excellent shape. Academic achievement is improving, and our 2011 State Report Card is the best it has been in recent years. The employee team of teachers, administrators, and support staff are talented, hard working, and passionate about their work; our financial position is very strong and the envy of many small districts; the school district buildings and grounds are attractive, well maintained and sound; and our extracurricular offerings are impressive, including the state football championship in 2009.
God has truly blessed me over these past years with the opportunity to serve the district as a first grade teacher, principal of Kelly Edwards Elementary School and Williston-Elko Middle School, and as superintendent. I would like to publicly thank my five sons and their families and my mother for the sacrifices they made for my career and for the loving support provided along the way. I would like to acknowledge my husband’s active role in my 38 years in public education. In 1972 he insisted that I complete my teaching degree, provided the means and encouragement for me to further my education and enter into administration, and suggested we move back to Williston in 1978. I would not be where I am today if it were not for his wise counsel, coaching, and belief in my potential. Alex Clamp was my mentor, advisor, and cheerleader all these years, and he will always be with me in spirit.
I also thank the community of Williston for all its support and input and for the opportunity to serve you over the years. I thank the School Board for having faith in me to allow me these years to work as its superintendent. I love Williston School District No. 29, the teachers, staff, administration, and most of all the students. As I retire after 34 years in this school system, I am confident that the district is moving forward and improving academically. We have the best children in the world. It was uplifting for me to turn them into Star Students with my magic wand in kindergarten as well as present them a Happy Face graduate doll, a cupcake, and their high school diploma years later. As I have told these young people before, and it will continue to remain true, “Once my students, always my students.”
May God richly continue to bless our District!

Respectfully submitted,
Alexia Corder Clamp
Superintendent, 2003-2012
