Lady Raiders rally over Patrick Henry Academy

The Jefferson Davis Academy varsity girls came from behind to beat Patrick Henry Academy by a score of 41-37 Jan. 21 in Estill.

Jefferson Davis Academy trailed Patrick Henry Academy 37-33 with a 1:08 left to play.

The Lady Raiders, however, surged back in the final minute behind the shooting of Darcey Holladay. Holladay scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter to lead the team to victory. Holladay also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.

JDA coach Eddie Bonnett said it was a great team effort.

"I'm extremely proud of the girls for fighting back like they did. They showed a lot of heart," Bonnett said. "This was a hard fought game. Everyone stepped up on our team and did their part, especially with the scoring. This was a big win for us and hopefully we can built on it."

Several others players performing well included Roxanne Morgan, Lauren Neely, Shannon Cruz, Kasey Owens and Katherine Williams. Morgan racked up seven points and eight assists. Neeley had nine pounds and 10 rebounds.

Cruz had her best outing of the season with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Owens and Williams each added two points.
