Barnwell softball dominates BLH

  • Kelci Brown fired a no-hitter in the Lady Warhorses 10-0 win over Batesburg-Leesville.

On March 27 in Region V softball action, the Barnwell High Lady Warhorses outplayed Batesburg-Leesville High in all facets in a 10-0 blowout win.

The game was close until the fifth inning when the Lady Warhorses erupted for five runs to take a 9-0 lead.

In that inning, Kelci Brown, Kyra Shuler and Maleah Williams provided the big hits. Brown and Shuler each belted a RBI triples. Williams, who has been playing really well this season, recorded a RBI double.

With the win, Barnwell High improves to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in region play.

“Good team win,”Barnwell High coach Carol Massengale said. “I believe we had a good formula for winning. Kelci Brown had an outstanding job of pitching. The defense was good and we came through with some timely hits.”

In the contest, all eyes were on Lady Warhorses pitcher Kelci Brown, who through a no-hitter.

The junior right hander stymied Batesburg-Leesville High’s offense all game by working the corners and middle of the plate. In her last three games, Brown has allowed only four hits while recording 29 strikeouts.

Batesburg-Leesville High. however, wasn’t as successful with their pitching.

Offensively, the Lady Warhorses ended the game with 13 hits, including two doubles and two triples. Brown and Williams led the bats with three hits each. Players with two hits include Kyra Shuler and Kaylie Pridgen.

Defensively the Lady Warhorses played error free ball. Leading the unit was Rachael Creech, Kylie Bridgmon, Anna Beth Grissom, Allyssa Still, Maleah Williams and Makayla Anderson.

On the injury front, outfielder Camryn Holloway suffered an ankle sprain during practice.

She’s expected to be out a couple of weeks.
