JDA baseball repeats win over WEHS
On April 10 in the Blue Devils’ Den, the Williston-Elko High baseball team tried to avenge an earlier loss to Jefferson Davis Academy.
Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, the rematch had the same results as the first meeting of the season.
For the second time, Jefferson Davis Academy’s Raiders got the best of Williston-Elko High; this time by a count of 9-7.
With an 8-4 lead after four innings, the Raiders had enough cushion to hold off a late Blue Devils charge to earn a season sweep of the series.
With the win, Jefferson Davis Academy moves to 8-5 in the standings.
JDA coach Michael Tindal said the team is getting better at the right time of the season.
“Right now, we’re playing very consistent and with a lot of confidence as a team,” Tindal said. “We had another good pitching game today and we continue to do a good job of putting the ball in play and running the bases.”
Wyatt Brant shined in the circle for the Raiders as he picked up his second win of the season with a six-hit, five-strikeout performance.
Adam Gee came on in relief in the final inning and was credited with a save.
Offensively, the Raiders shelled out 11 hits. Lance Ray led bats with two doubles and three RBIs.
Also enjoying a good day at the plate was Paul Bazzle, who had two hits and three runs scored.
Others producing included Dalton Beasley, Wyatt Brant and Blake Renew, each with a hit and a run scored.
Defensively for the Raiders, Paul Bazzle, Dalton Beasley, Blake Renew, Adam Gee and Colton Pritchard were credited with good play.
For the Blue Devils, Noah Wootten and Will Nolind led the bats with two hits each.
Wootten also scored two runs.
