Area teams battle in Machine Pitch Title Game

On May 30 in the Barnwell Recreation Machine Pitch championship game, Low Country Wood Products out-gunned McCain Atkinson Insurance by a score of 14-10.

The game was tightly played until the top of the sixth inning.

With the score knotted at 8-8, Low Country Wood Products separated itself from its adversaries with six runs off five hits for a 14-8 lead.

For the team, Jackson Brant, Haden Martin and Jackson Mead sparked the scoring run with RBI singles. Others reaching home plate in the inning included Seth Plunkett, Thomas Brown and Aden Rutland.

Down by six runs, McCain Atkinson tried to mount a comeback in its last at-bat. The team plated two runs on scores by Cayson Austin and Cooper Boleman. However, with two outs and runners on second and third, McCain Atkinson attempted to keep the rally going. That ended when Aden Rutland recorded the final out with a grounder to first base.

Low Country Wood Products coach Chad Mead said the team played a whale of a game.

“I’m very extremely proud of our players. We stepped up and produced some clutch hits in the last inning,” Mead said.

Members of the Low Country Wood Products championship team include Thomas Brown, Jeremiah Jones, Ian Delarrio, Cameron Spell, Haden Martin, Seth Plunkett, Jaiden Zissette, Jackson Mead, Aden Rutland, Jackson Brant and Mustafa Khan.

Coaches are Chad Mead, Joey Rutland, Keith Bearden and Brandon Spell.
