Carolina Shockers teams hold exhibition games
The Carolina Shockers basketball teams have had a successful campaign on the hardwood so far this summer.
The Carolina Shockers, which opened the season last March, have competed in tournaments in Augusta, North Augusta, Aiken, Orangeburg, Atlanta and Charlotte.
The Shockers consist of players from Barnwell, Allendale, Bamberg and Orangeburg counties and have 14-and-under and 10th grade teams.
Carolina Shockers organizer Adrian Bell said it has been a great experience for the youngsters.
“We have a lot of talented basketball players in the area and playing in this league gives them an opportunity to compete on a different level,” Bell said.
In preparation for the AAU International Championship in Orlando later this month, the Shockers held an exhibition game against the Palmetto Ballers of Orangeburg Saturday at Barnwell High School.
In the middle school age group, the Shockers raced to a 28-14 first half lead before holding off the Ballers by a score of 49-45.
The Shockers were highlighted on offense by Adam Clark of Barnwell with 22 points. DeAngelo McCord of Edisto had nine points. Tyquan Jones and TJ Miller of Barnwell each scored eight points. Zach Bell of Barnwell also played well for four points and seven assists.
Defensively, the team was led by Robert Crosby of Bamberg along with Jabori Green and Collin Ferguson of Barnwell.
Bell said the team played well and he was pleased with the support and turnout for Saturday’s event.
“I’m very greatful for all the support of the parents, sponsors and fans that supports our basketball teams. Everything went really well today” Bell said.
“I’d like to give thanks to our coaches, officials and all the players for their dedication to the program. I’d also like to give a special thank you to Barnwell High for the use of their facilities.”
