BHS volleyball falls to BEHS in junior varsity play

The Barnwell High junior varsity volleyball team played a good match at home Thursday against Bamberg-Ehrhardt.

Unfortunately for the Lady Warhorses, the Lady Red Raiders were just one game better in the contest.

In what developed into a very intense and exciting match, the Lady Red Devils were able to hold off the Lady Warhorses for a 2-1 win.

All three matches were decided by two points.

In game one, BEHS prevailed by a score of 25-23. Barnwell then responded with a 25-23 win in set two to force a decisive game.

The final game featured seven ties and nine lead changes. Barnwell held a 25-24 lead, but were unable to close out the game as BEHS rallied, scoring three straight points for a 27-25 win.

For the match, BHS was led by Alecia Williams, Mackenzie Jackson and Zi’kaya Crumley. Williams paced the team with 10 serving points. Jackson, who led with 12 assists, also had eight serving points and three digs. Crumley registered seven serving points and four assists. Others playing well included Madison Ray, Grace Chavis, Kayla Peters and Mya Smith.

Defensively for the Lady Warhorses, Harley Kennedy, Mya Smith, Zi’Kaya Crumley, Madison Ray, Makenzie Jackson and Alecia Williams.

Bamberg-Ehrhardt was paced by Wallis Rutland with 13 serving points. Reagan Johnson contributed 10 serving points and Riley Johnson and Jade Freeman each had eight serving points.

Players performing well defensively included Antonia Orr, Jakiah Wilson, Saryia Smith, Wallis Rutland and Jade Freeman.
