A-F Tigers fall to McCormick
The Allendale-Fairfax High Tigers didn’t have their most productive night Friday night at McCormick High.
The Tigers spotted the Chiefs 14 points in the first half, then tried to come back. Despite a strong second half performance, the Tigers were unable to slow down the Chiefs in a 28-12 loss.
Defensively, the Tigers didn’t have an answer for tailback Mataeo Durant and quarterback Dillon Waters of the Chiefs. Durant rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Walters had 158 total yards, including 97 yards passing and a touchdown.
With the loss, Allendale-Fairfax High drops to 1-4 in the standings.
Allendale-Fairfax High coach Glynn Darby said breakdowns and missed assignments plagued the team all game.
“It’s pretty frustrating to keep losing games like this,” Darby said. “We played them pretty even except for a few breakdowns.”
Offensively there were some bright spots for the Tigers as senior Demoray Devoe continues to shine.
Devoe finished with more than 130 all-purpose yards for the fourth time this season. He also scored his fifth touchdown of the season.
Another player who has also stepped up for the Tigers on both sides of the ball is Bryshon Johnson who scored a touchdown in his second consecutive game.
“Things are tough right now, but we’ve got to keep playing hard. We came close again tonight but we have to find a way to play four quarters of solid football,” Darby said.
