JDA beats Clarendon Hall
The Jefferson Davis Academy varsity girls volleyball team came from behind to beat Clarendon Hall Academy in five sets on Sept. 19 in Blackville.
After a ragged start, the Lady Raiders came together to score wins in three of the final sets. For the Lady Raiders the match scoring went 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19 and 15-15.
JDA coach Bart Owens said his young group pulled out a big victory.
“I thought we played really well today. I was very pleased to see some of our young players step up and make plays in a very close match,” Owens said.
In the match, four Lady Raiders registered double digits in serving points. Becca Fogle posted a double double as she led the hitting with 16 serving points and 12 assists.
For the team, Caroline Robinson, Anna Beth Morgan and Bethany Stokes also helped establish a good offensive flow. Robinson finished with 12 serving points, seven assists and three digs. Morgan, who led the team with 14 assists, also pitched in 10 serving points and four digs. Stokes tallied 11 serving points, eight assists and two digs. Weeks finished with nine serving points and six assists.
Defensively, Robinson paced the team with four blocks. Others playing well on the unit included Anna Beth Morgan, Bethany Stokes, Kiresten Phillips, Karrie Atkins and Becca Fogle.
“Our main focus today was not to let anyone outwork us in our home gym. We did a good of serving and attacking the net,” Owens said.
