In their Jan. 12 region home basketball game, the Barnwell High varsity boys got off to a fast start against the Edisto High School Cougars of Cordova.

However, down the home stretch, the Barnwell Warhorses couldn't keep up with the scoring pace of the Cougars and fell short at the final horn by 61-50.

The Warhorses built a 10-2 lead during the first 10 minutes of the contest, but then the visiting Cougars outscored them 59 to 40 over the next 38 minutes.

An offensive meltdown in the third quarter was also damaging for the Warhorses. It was a quarter where Barnwell High hit only three of 15 field goals for a total of seven points.

Meanwhile the Cougars had no problems landing its shots, going nine-of-12 for a total of 20 points.

"For some reason, we can't put together four quarters of basketball," Barnwell High coach Michael Highsmith said. "We'll started off a game fast then for some reason fall apart. It's been very frustrating."

The top scorer for Barnwell High was Patrick Green with 16 points, including 12 in the first half. Antwan Hiers had a solid performance with nine points, seven steals and six assists.

Colby Carter notched four points and seven rebounds. Corwin Roberts finished with five points, including a three-pointer. Terry Williams had a three-pointer and five steals.
