If the Barnwell High and Edisto High girls varsity basketball game Jan. 12 was a boxing match, then it would have stopped in the first round.

The Lady Warhorses withheld no punches on its region rivals before delivering a knockout blow by a score of 63-35.

For Barnwell High, it was the dynamic backcourt scoring of Brittany Breeland and Jasmine Tooks that paved the way to victory.

Breeland secured in a double-double with 15 points, 10 steals and four assists while Tooks provided 14 points, six steals and six assists.

With the win, Barnwell High improves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in region play.

However, despite the lopsided win, at times the Lady Warhorses lost focus. When they did, head coach David Smith made them aware of it.

"We're not in a position to get complacent on the court. We have to play hard for four quarters," Smith said. "At times tonight, we acted like we didn't know what we were doing. We lost our focus because we had a big lead."

Other playing well against Edisto High included Raine Gilyard with six points and nine rebounds. Meghann Williams, who sat out most of the second half, posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Shanita Hutto had six points and 10 steals.

For Edisto High, Ebonee Maxwell led the Lady Cougars with 20 points.
