The Williston-Elko High Blue Devils had little trouble finding the bottom of the net Friday night against region rival North High.
Fueled by the plays of Kalin Strong and Rokeem Williams, the Blue Devils torched the Eagles by a score of  70-43.
The hot-shooting duo combined for 41 points. Rokeem Williams led the team with 21 points, including four three-pointers. Strong had a breakout game with 20 points 17 rebounds, four blocked shots and four assits.
For the Eagles, the contest was close after one quarter with the team trailing 8-6. However, in the second stanza, the Blue Devils pulled away with a 18-9 run for a 26-17 halftime lead.
The Blue Devils didn’t let of the gas pedal in the third quarter as they outscored the Eagles 20-12 for a 46-29 advantage.
Williston-Elko High coach Kenneth Lipsey missed the game for personal reasons. Assistant coach Ronnie Tobin coached the Blue Devils in his absence.
Tobin said the team found its rhythm after a shaky beginning.
“Early in the game, we weren’t blocking out and we missed a lot of easy baskets,” Tobin said. “After the opening quarter, we started executing better on both ends of the court. We converted in transition. Defensively, we won the rebound battle, holding them to mostly one-shot opportunities.”
Also enjoying a good night for the Blue Devils were Zac Smith with 12 points, seven steals and five assists. Deoshay Dukes led the team with 11 steals. He also produced seven points. Shaqeille O’Neal had five points and four steals. Jerry James racked up nine rebounds. Zach Neville had four rebounds.
