Danny’s Classic Cars of Elko raced past the Ehrhardt Trailblazers by a score of 24-13 Sunday in adult league softball play.
The game was close through the first three innings with DCC leading 14-11.
However, after that point, DCC took control of the scoreboard, scoring 10 runs in the next three innings to put the game away.
Fueling the victory for DCC was Ronnie Holmes, who went four-for-four with 6 RBIs and four runs scored. He highlighted the game with a grand slam home run in the sixth inning.
In that inning, Ehrhardt walked the first three batters prior to Holmes taking the plate.
Holmes said he felt that move by Ehrhardt was a lack of respect.
“I was hitting the ball well all game, so I don’t know why they did that,” Holmes said.
“However, the bottom line is they got what they asked for. They don’t call me Mr. RBI for nothing around here.”
It was all DCC in the early stages of the contest. Sparked by two-run RBI doubles by Holmes and Frankie Reed, DCC scored eight runs in the first inning. Others scoring in the inning included Orlando Rivera, Chad Rudolph, Rocky Brown, Dion Davis, Keith Parker and Eddie Williamson.
After going scoreless in their first at-bat, the the Trailblazers got on the scoreboard in the second inning with three runs to cut the lead to 8-3.
In the bottom half of the second inning, DCC answered with three runs of its own to extend the lead at 11-3. Players scoring in the inning included Brown, Holmes and Williamson.
After watching its eight-run lead cut to 17-13 over the next two innings, DCC responded with a bang in the fifth inning.
Behind the hitting of Mario Jefferson and Parker, DCC reeled off four runs for a 21-13 lead. Jefferson had a three-run homer in the inning. Parker hit a solo homer.
The score remained that way until one inning later when Holmes belted a grand slam to end the game.
For the game, Dion Davis was the top pitcher for DCC.
“We needed this win, especially after losing the first game,” Holmes said. “In that game, we lost focus early and made too many errors.”
In other adult league action, the D&D Sluggers of Barnwell got back on the winning track Saturday in Kline.
The Sluggers, coming off a double-header loss to Varnville, took out its frustration on Kline. Behind the bats of Myron Neal, Dominic Creech and Marcus Robinson, the Sluggers pounded the Kline Cypress Pros by a count of 13-8.
In the game, the Sluggers fell behind early, but responded with eight runs in the last three inning for the victory.
Neal led the hitting, going three-for-three with four RBIs and two runs scored. Creech had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Robinson was two-for-three with an RBI and two runs scored.
Others shining at the plate for the Sluggers included Tim Daniels, Anthony Pressley, William Hammonds, Tommy Donaldson and Leroy Smalls.
