Fourth quarter run propels WEHS girls to victory

It took three quarters, but when the Williston-Elko High varsity girls took the role as aggressors, they ran away with a 83-58 victory over North High School Jan. 22 in North.

Williston-Elko High shot 62.5 percent from the floor (15-of-24) in the final quarter as the team outscored North High 33-18.

Tierra Richberg sizzled on the offensively for the Lady Blue Devils with 27 points, including 10 points in the final quarter.

With the win, Williston-Elko High improves to 9-5 overall and 8-2 in region play.

Williston-Elko High coach Eva Strong said the team did a superb job of executing when the game was on the line.

"In the first half, we really played sloppy and let some balls go," Strong said. "In the second half, especially in the fourth quarter, we were more patient offensively. We made good decisions in transition and when we had opportunities in the paint, we scored."

WEHS received scoring throughout the lineup with six players contributing.

Others shining included Kyla Coleman with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Corley also posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 steals. Jalen Reed had a good all-around performance, finishing with seven points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds. Lakendra James had six points while Charnica Williams added five points.

On Jan. 26, the Lady Blue Devils got past Fox Creek High by a score of 36-28.

After a slow past first half in which the teams combined for only 23 points, the Lady Blue Devils found their shooting touch.

Richberg and Reed got the troops going, scoring 17 of the team 24 second half points. Richberg led all scorers with 16 points, including 11 in the second half. Reed had seven points, 10 steals and four assists.

Others scoring included Corley with seven points, including a three-pointer. Coleman finished with four points and nine rebounds.
