JDA boys snag another varsity basketball win
There were many bright spots for the Jefferson Davis Academy boys varsity basketball team in its region matchup Jan. 12 at Bowman Academy.
Their free throw shooting was solid. They out-rebounded their opponent and every single player scored at least one basket.
At last but not least, the Raiders outscored the Bulldogs by a count of 47-31. Led by John Walker, the Raiders broke a close game wide open during the third quarter with a 16-5 scoring run. That gave the Raiders a 39-22 lead.
Walker, who posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, had six points in the period.
The victory improves JDA record to 11-1 overall.
JDA coach Clint Inman said the players turned in another solid performance.
"Good team victory. I thought all of our players went out and played extremely well," Inman said.
"I was very happy with our team performance. I thought we did a some good things on both ends of the court. Offensively our guards created scoring opportunities in transition. We also played a tough-nosed defense."
For the game, a season-high eight players scored for Jefferson Davis Academy. Others with impressive efforts included Edward Givens with six points, 16 rebounds and seven steals.
Matthew Webster had nine points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Alex Still played well in the paint, finishing with 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and three points.
Nic Jamison, Brandon Howard and Will Gee each scored five points. Noah Bearden had four points.
