JDA boys squeak past Andy Jackson in basketball
The Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders slid past the Andrew Jackson Academy Confederates by a close score of 54-48 Friday in Ehrhardt.
The Jefferson Davis Academy boys got its eighth win of the season by putting three players in double digit scoring.
Leading the way for the Raiders was junior Edward Givens with 19 points, including three three-pointers.
Givens was eight-of-12 from the field. Givens leads the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. He surpassed 1,000 points scoring for his career Dec. 19. 2009 against Patrick Henry Academy during JDA's Christmas tournament.
"Edward Givens has been having a really good season for us so far," JDA coach Clint Inman said. "He's one of those players who makes everyone around him better."
With the win, JDA record stands at 8-1 overall. The Raiders, who are No.1 in the region are also ranked No. 6 in SCISA 1A.
"I'm very proud of the effort of this team through the first half of the season. They have done everything I've ask of them as a coach," Inman said.
Rounding out the scoring for JDA included Nic Jamsion with 12 points, including a three-pointers, four assists and four steals.
Matthew Webster had 11 points and six assists. Chris McLean had a good all-around game with six points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds. Alex Still added two points and five rebounds.
On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the Raiders traveled to Patrick Henry Academy and knocked off the Patriots by a score of 50-43.
The Raiders took control of the contest from the opening whistle with a 27-15 first half scoring run.
The Patriots fought back in the second half. However, PHA got no closer than six points as the Raiders held on for the victory.
For JDA, Nic Jamison highlighted the offense with a game high 22 points. Also playing well were Matthew Webster with 15 points, including two three-pointer. Givens had six points and nine assists while John Walker added three points and 10 boards.
