A trio of Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders enjoyed their experience at the SCISA 1A All-Star football Classic Dec. 3 at Patrick Henry Academy.
For Jefferson Davis Academy head coach Curt Ott, defensive coordinator Kevin Webster and quarterback/defensive back Matthew Webster represented the the North Team.
Ott, who coached the All-Stars when he was at Bowman Academy, said it’s a great honor to be a part of a prestigious event again.
“Unless you’re winning a championship it dosen’t get any better than this as a coach,” Ott said. “To be here coaching in this game is just awesome. I got an opportunity to meet and coach some really good respectable young men.”
Kevin Webster returns as an All-Star coach after coaching the event in 2010 as a staff member of  former JDA coach Joey Lott.
Kevin Webster said it’s always a fun event.
“We’ve been here for three days. We had a good week of practice and a  lot of fun with these young men,”  Kevin Webster said.
“This kind of game gives the players a chance to bound and build friendships that will last a life time.”
As for the game it was high-energy from the start as the teams went up and down the field like a ping pong match.
However, through all the big plays, it was Ott’s team which prevailed at the end in a 37-26 triumph.
“I wanted to make a point that the kids have a lot of fun out there. That’s what this game is all about. I thought we did a lot of creative things on offense with all the tricks plays. We also had some creative end zone celebrations that the fans really enjoyed,” Ott said.
Matthew Webster was all over the field making plays for the North Team. On offense, Matthew Webster played quarterback and running back. He finished with 56 yards on seven carries and two pass completions. Defensively, Webster had nine tackles and an interception.
“This was a good experience,”Matthew Webster said. “We had a really talented team and we went out and performed at a high level.”
