The Williston-Elko High Lady Blue Devils scored a 49-37 region win Thursday night over the Lady War Eagles of Wagner-Salley High.

Trailing 14-9 after the first quarter, the Lady Blue Devils found its offense. Fueled by an efficient halfcourt offense and transition game, the Lady Blue Devils went on a 40-23 scoring run over the next three quarters.

Highlighting the offense for the Lady Blue Devils were Tierra Richberg and Courtney Corley. Richberg, who has averaged double-figures in six games, continued her hot play with 17 points and 12 rebounds against the Lady War Eagles.

"Right now, I'm just doing what I can to help the team win," Richberg said.

Corley turned in her first double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points, 10 steals and six assists.

With the win, WEHS improves to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in region play. The Lady Blue Devils move into a three-way tie in the region for first place with C.A. Johnson High and Wagener-Salley High.

WEHS coach Eva Strong said the team needed a win after a disappointing outing against C.A. Johnson High two days before.

"We played very poorly in the loss to C.A. Johnson, so this win gives us a little redemption," said Strong. "We came out slow against Wagener-Salley. We did a good job of putting up the tempo on both ends of the court. Offensively, we moved the ball around well and took good shots. Defensively, we rebounded well and put a lot of pressure on them with our press."

Rounding out the scoring includes Charnica Williams with eight points, seven assists and six steals. Jalen Reed had three points, four steals and three assists. Shima Carter and LaKendra James each contributed two points and three rebounds.
