If fans from Barnwell and Wade Hampton were expecting an exciting, high-scoring girls basketball game, then they were disappointed Friday night in Barnwell.

Barnwell High was the first team to reach 20 points, but they did so with 3:29 left in the third quarter. Despite, the Lady Warhorses' poor shooting, its was good enough for a 39-20 victory over the Lady Red Devils.

Barnwell High shot a season-low 27 percent from the field on 14-of-52 shooting. The team also scored a season low 13 points in the first half. For Barnwell, Shanita Hutto made the most of her scoring opportunities. Hutto was the only player who scored in double figures, going four-of-seven from the field for 10 points.

With the win, Barnwell High improves to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in region play.

Barnwell High coach David Smith said it wasn't pretty, but it was a win.

"We wanted them to play us man-to-man, but they played zone. That's pretty much dictated the tempo and scoring of the game," Smith said. "It was hard trying to get into any type of offense flow because at times we just held the ball for minutes trying to get them out of their zone defense."

Others scoring for Barnwell High included Jasmine Tooks with nine points, three assists and four steals. Brittany Breeland and Megahan Williams each had six points. Raine Gilyard contributed six rebounds and four points.
