Barnwell High girls varsity soccer coach Michael Allen dose not take too much stock in early season wins.

However, Allen admits what he witnessed in Feb. 27 Lady Warhorses Classic championship was pretty impressive.

In a hard-fought defensive battle, Barnwell High shut down one of the top ranked class 3A division teams by beating Bluffton High by a score of 2-0.

"We defeated a very good Bluffton High team tonight and I couldn't be more proud of a group of girls," Allen said. "We played extremely well together and made the most of our opportunities when we were close to the net. Defensively, we couldn't play any better. We played sound for the entire game. We didn't give them a lot of scoring chances and when they got opportunities, our goalkeeper came up with stops."

Leading the way offensively for the Lady Warhorses were Kourtni Owens and Lynnsey Jamison. Owens got the team rolling against Bluffton when she netted a goal just two minutes into play. Marianne Moore provided the assist.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead midway in the second half, the Lady Warhorses added an insurance goal when Jamison and Moore teamed up. On the play, Moore delivered a perfect pass to Jamison who drilled in the shot from the corner.

Defensively, Kaitlin Owens, Blankney Sanders, Auburn Walters, Nicole Sanders, Summer Hogg and Autumn Baker all were credited with good performances. Goalkeepers Sanders and Baker teamed up for the shutout.

In the opening round of the tournament Feb. 26, the Lady Warhorses made quick work of Socastee High by a score of 4-0.

The Lady Warhorses dominated the contest, outshooting Socastee High 16-2.

Emily All fueled the scoring with two goals. Others stepping up offensively included Kourtni Owens and Shelby Gantt with a goal each. Moore and Jamison each had assists.

Goalkeepers Baker and Sanders combined for the shutout.

In the second round, Barnwell High downed Ashley Ridge High of Summerville by a score of 2-0.

Despite outshooting Ashley Ridge 9-2, the Lady Warhorses were held to zero goals in the first half of play.

After battling to a scoreless tie at halftime, the Lady Warhorses found their offense.

Nicole Sanders and Kourtni Owens sparked the team with goals.

Summer Hogg an Kaitlin Owens were credited with assists.

Barnwell High players selected to the All-Tournament team included Blakeney Sanders, Autumn Baker, Kourtni Owens an Samantha Sanders.
