The St. Mark Warriors softball team of Allendale made quick work out of the Kline Cypress Pros Sunday in Kline.
Fueled by the bats of Wilson Williams, Michael Bostic and Greg Hoover, the Warriors outscored the Cypress Pros 30-15 in 12 innings of a twin-bill.
For the Warriors, the trio accounted for 13 of the team’s 27 hits in the two games.
Williams led the bats with six hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and five runs scored.
Bostic finished with five hits, including a double, two RBIs and four runs scored. Hoover collected four hits, including a double, two singles and three RBIs.
With the victory, St. Mark improves to 11-2 overall.
The Warriors also captured the conference championship for the second time in four years. The tournament will be held Aug. 21 and 22 in St. Mark.
St. Mark coach Thomas Cohen said the team played well. However, they also got complacent at times during both games.
“After getting big leads in both games, we kind of lost our intensity and starting making mistakes,” Cohen said.
“We won the game, but we’re capable of playing better softball than we did today. If we have hopes of winning it all this year, we can’t afford to take breaks or slack off in our performance like we did in this game.”
For the Kline Cypress Pros a lack of execution defensively proved to be the difference in the games.
“We committed more than 10 errors in each game. You can’t win games when you make those kind of mistakes,” Kline coach Michael Wallace said. “Out of the 30 runs St. Mark scored, at least 15 of them were unearned.”
In game one, the Warriors pounded out 12 hits in a 15-5 victory.
