The USC-Salkehatchie Lady Indians softball team was unstoppable on the diamond Saturday evening on the reservation in Allendale.

USC-Salkehatchie dominated Wake Technical College of Raleigh N.C., winning both games of a doubleheader in a rout.

During the day, the Lady Indians put on a hitting exhibition as they shelled out 32 hits and 48 runs.

Sophomore Alyssa Chambers of Goose Greek High did most of the damage at the plate, finishing the day with six hits, including two triples, a double and nine runs scored.

Chambers said she went out and played her best.

"I was very pleased with my performance today and happy with the victories," Chambers said. "I tried to be patient at the plate and make most the most of my opportunities when I got good pitches."

The victories improve USC-Salkehatchie's record to 11-11 and 4-0 in region play.

USC-Salk coach Mitch Smith said the team really came through with its bats.

"Your best defense is a good offense and our our offense was very strong today," Smith said. "I was very pleased with our girls. Overall I thought we hit the ball very well all through the lineup."

In game one, the Lady Indians were hitting on all cylinders at the plate as they steamrolled over Wake Technical by a score of 27-0.

At the plate, Chambers led the onslaught with three hits, including a triple, three RBIs and four runs scored.

Others shining at the plate included Symone Nettles, Leigha Hite, Crystal Long, Gwenell Crawford with three hits each and three runs scored. Players with two hits each included Kandyce Ranew, Dannon Reese and Amanda Kam.

Hite was the winning pitcher for the Lady Indians. She tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts.

In game two, the Lady Indians needed only four innings to put Wake Technical College away. Ahead 6-2, the Lady Indians broke the game wide open in the third inning with 12 runs for a 18-2 advantage. In the innings, the Lady Indians scattered six hits with Long and Reese highlighting the string of runs with RBI doubles.

Others scoring in the inning included Chambers, Long, Nettles, Kam, Amber Hiers, Ranew and Gwenell Crawford.

"We started out a little slow at the plate. However, after making a few adjustment we were able to get going offensively with our bats," Smith said.

For the game, Chambers, Crawford, Long, Ranew and Nettles each had two hits.

On the mound, Samantha Martin and Ranew combined for the win.
