Warhorses run down Pelion Panthers in region basketball game
Warhosre guard Terry Williams posted 14 points and 10 steals in their 65-49 win against Pelion.
The late season surge continues for the Barnwell High boys varsity basketball team.
On Feb. 2, the Warhorses stayed on its heady roll by corralling the Panthers of Pelion High 65-49.
Bolstered by the trio of Terry Williams, Phazahn Odom and Antwan Hiers, the Warhorses galloped to a 26-17 halftime lead.
Terry Williams turned in his best performance of the season posting a double-double with 14 points, 10 steals and six assists. Odom had a strong outing in the paint with 10 points, 11 boards and two blocked shots. Hiers collected 11 points, six steals and six assists.
Barnwell High, winners of three of its last four games, improves to 9-9 overall and 4-4 in region play.
The winning streak for Barnwell High comes after a mid-season bump in the road where the team lost three games in a row.
"We faced some adversity this season, but we found a way to overcome it," Barnwell High coach Michael Highsmith said. "Right now, we're playing with a lot of confidence.We're in stride now and I believe we are playing our best basketball at the right time of the season."
The Warhorses also had several others performing well against Pelion High, including D.J Williams with seven points and nine rebounds. Willie William had a solid game with seven points, six assists and five steals.
Pat Green had two points and six rebounds. Trey Still had two points and three rebounds.
In other region action, Barnwell High defeated Edisto High 55-49 Jan. 29 in Cordova.
Tied at 37-37 after three quarters, the Warhorses broke a close game wide open with a 18-11 scoring run in the final quarter.
Hiers paved the way to victory with 13 second half points, including seven in the fourth quarter. Hiers finished with 18 points, six steals and four assists. Green and Odom also had a good offensive showings. Green had 15 points, six teals and three assists. Odom finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots.
