In search of its first region win, the Williston-Elko High boys varsity basketball accomplished its mission after three tries Jan. 5 against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High.

Senior guard Quantel Mack sparked the team to victory with 18 points as the Blue Devils downed the Trojans by a score of 55-45.
Mack was seven-of-13 from the field with two three-pointers.

With the win, Williston-Elko improves to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in region play.

Williston-Elko High coach Devin Liferidge said it was a huge win for the team.

"We lost a couple of tough games during the holiday tournaments, so we needed get back on the winning track," Liferidge said.

"It was a close game throughout. However, I thought we did a nice job of making plays in the second half to put the game away."

Several players stepped up the scoring department for the Blue Devils including Antonio Walker, Rokeem Williams, Ray Wilson and Darryl Salley. Walker notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

Williams also had a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Salley registered eight points and six rebounds while Wilson pitched in six points.
