BLACKVILLE - A funeral service for Deacon Aaron Green Jr. of Blackville was held at 1:00 post meridian, Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the Blackville Community Center, Blackville. Due to the pandemic and CDC regulations, social distancing and other guidelines were in place.
Deacon Aaron Green Jr., a son of Deacon Aaron Green Sr. and Mollie E. Collins Green, was born on May 4, 1930 in Springfield and transitioned from labor to reward on November 1, 2022 at Veteran’s Victory House, Walterboro.
At an early age he joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Blackville.
He was educated in the Dry Branch School System of Blackville. He worked as a civilian employee from 1945-1951. He was then drafted into the United States Army from 1951-1953 and was honorably discharged. During his tenure in the military, he worked as a heavy-duty truck driver. After his honorable discharge from the armed services, he then attended the area trade school, which is now Denmark Technical School. After graduating from training school, he relocated to Fort Stewart, Florida, where he lived for many years. He then relocated to New York City where he made his home for 50 years. There he met and married Eartha Harley and to this union four children were born. Aaron also raised two children, Calvin Reed and Thomas Green in the home.
While located in New York, Aaron joined the Greater Central Baptist Church, New York, New York. While attending greater central he was a faithful member of many organizations and was awarded numerous certificates for his work.
Aaron’s work occupation while living in New York included construction and he also was the owner of a cab and limousine service for 40-plus years, then retired and relocated back to Blackville in 2002.
After relocating back to Blackville he rejoined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Senior Citizen Association Blackville.
Aaron was preceded in death by four children, Annie, Sylvia, Arlene, Ulysses, and nine siblings.
Aaron leaves to cherish his loving memories: one daughter – Lillie Green, Blackville; two sons reared in the home – Calvin Reed (Fannie), Aiken, and Thomas Green, New York, N.Y.; two brothers – Hannibal Green (Mary) and Harry Green Sr., Harlem, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law – Raymond Harrison, Queens, N.Y. and Henry Harley, Charleston; 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We extend loving thanks to Clary Ann Young for her devoted healthcare help while Aaron was at home.
Special thanks to Reverend Rivers for his acquired friendship while a patient at Victory House. Thanks to Ty’kara, Toya, and Vaniya who were his certified nursing assistants and all the staff of Veteran’s Victory House and the entire staff of Patriot’s Hospice.
