BLACKVILLE - Funeral services for James Buist Morris, 87, of Blackville, will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11 o’clock a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend David Turner officiating; burial will follow in the Barnwell Memorial Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. James passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023.
Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Reginald Buist Morris and Myrtle Haskell Morris. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and retired as a robotic maintenance welder from the Chevrolet Division of General Motors after 25 years of service. He attended the General Motors Technical College for 2 years. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and a member of the Army Reserve for 12 years, retiring as a Master Sargent. James grew up in Old Ellenton which is now a part of the Savannah River Site. He returned to Blackville in 1985 and fulfilled his life-long dream of owning his own fish pond later in life, he certainly enjoyed fishing. He loved his children and grandchildren and was definitely a family man. He was a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge #126 and was a Mason for over 50 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Marilyn Sue Rush Morris; daughters, Kim Joann Walters and Tina Marie (Jon) Forde; sons, Kevin Mark Walters and Tracy Lee (Courtney) Walters; a brother, Wayne Allen (Jean) Morris; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Dicks, Gloria Frazier and Joy Robison.
