Toby Weathersbee Googe

Posted

WALTERBORO – Toby Weathersbee Googe, 84, (formerly from Allendale) entered into eternal rest on September 23, 2025, surrounded peacefully by her loving daughters. She was born on January 16, 1941, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Katherine Mooney Weathersbee and Marion Weathersbee.

Toby was predeceased by her devoted husband of 54 years, Thomas Wilson Googe Jr., with whom she shared a true love story through life’s ups and downs. Remarkably, Toby joined him in heaven 12 years and one day after his passing. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Judy Wise and Floyd Weathersbee; and by her grandson, Chuck E. Cochran Jr.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Sheila Cochran (husband Chuck) of Walterboro and Stephanie Cochran (husband Marc) of Sycamore. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Bess Strong (husband Larry), Jane Sexton (husband Bill), and Marion Weathersbee Jr.

Toby’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind four grandchildren: Amanda Cochran of Walterboro; Tucker Cochran (wife Arin) of Seneca; Jordan Hobbs (husband Matthew) of Easley; and Katlyn Weathersbee of Barnwell. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Brooks Boyles, Jaylynn Boyles, Brooklynn Cochran, Lilly Cochran, Truitt Cochran, Preslynn Chavis, Isabelle Chavis, and Emersyn Chavis, each of whom brought light to her later years.

Outside of her home, Toby dedicated 27 years of service to the South Carolina Welcome Center on Highway 301 in Allendale, where she greeted travelers with the same warmth and kindness that she showed to everyone she met.

Toby met her husband at Allendale-Fairfax High School, and together they built a home filled with love, raising two daughters and caring for her brother. Her life was marked by dedication to her family, resilience through challenges, and the deep bond she carried with those she loved.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister, and for the peace she found in her final moments, surrounded by the love of her family.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Swallow Savannah Cemetery with the Rev. Glen Samples officiating. A eulogy and service will be presented by her daughters.

Family will receive friends at Keith Smith Funeral Service in Allendale, S.C., on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers are: Brooks Boyles, Tucker Cochran, Matthew Hobbs, David Bragg, Marion Weathersbee, and Kim Cochran.
